sid x.org broken?

2005-08-03 Thread Miguel Guzman Miranda
Hi there,

I just installed a new debian amd64 system and wanted to have directly
an x.org based system instead of installing xfree and then switching.

It seems x.org is not in etch, and in sid x.org is broken, when
installing xserver-xorg it gives:

expr: non-numeric argument

Is this going to be fixed or is it better for the time being to keep
xfree86?

Regards,

Miguel Guzman

Not sure what's wrong - the source works fine here (sid not testing).
You could try this although I'm not sure it will make any difference:
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian-amd64/debian/dists testing main

or another source and see if you're having the same problem:
deb http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian-amd64/debian/ testing main

Right for the second solution ;)

And I have put http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian-amd6/

Thanks.

nvidia driver 7667 for debian64?

2005-08-03 Thread Alexander Fieroch

Hello,

where can I get the current nvidia drivers (1.0.7667) for amd64?

Currently I'm using the drivers at...

deb http://bytekeeper.as28747.net/debian-amd64-alioth-old/pure64/ sid
non-free

... but these are only 1.0.7174-3.
The original nvidia installer from nvidia.com is still broken on
debian64, isn't it?

Why? What's the problem so that I have to use module-assistant?

imagine it is the same interface.

You will want the alsa-utils installed to get alsamixer so you can

I assume libarts is part of kde's artsd which would probably make it
C++. It is probably going through the C++ ABI transition and causing
broken depends like everything else C++ related in sid at the moment.

Well hopefully soon the transition will be all done in sid and things
will return to normal.

It is much more likely to be fixed if you make a detailed bug report to the BTS.

What does glxinfo | grep vendor give?

There are also some known issues with the 5xx0 series behaving very

enabled - try googling for how.

Add non-free i386 experiemntal deb-src to your sources.list (e.g.
deb-src http://mirror.ox.ac.uk/debian experimental non-free)

apt-get update

apt-get build-dep nvidia-graphics-drivers

apt-get source nvidia-graphics-drivers (in an empty folder)

cd cd nvidia-graphics-drivers-1.0.7667/

dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot

You may need to mess about a little with manually installing
nvidia-kernel-common 7667 from an i386 mirror (it's an All arch
package), and for some reason module-assistant only built an updated
kernel module when i ran through the GUI manually (I usually use m-a a-i
nvidia)

BUT... it worked for me, all things considered.

Security Support AMD64 Sarge

2005-08-03 Thread Joerg Jaspert
Hi

as already written long ago it was always planned to get amd64 on
security.debian.org to have the easiest possible way of official support
From the Debian Security Team.

This now finally happened, thanks to James Troup.

Note: This does *NOT* change anything with regard to inclusion of amd64
into the official Debian archive. Not a single bit! It is *completly*
isolated from that. Any flames in that direction: Sent it to me, not to
any ftp-master! (Or better: Dont flame, be productive and fix RC Bugs!)

Ok, back to the Topic:
Joey Schulze from the Security Team offered to do an accumulative
security announce, covering all the amd64 packages which now get added
for all the past advisories[1], so expect one big DSA in the near future.
(ETA is Monday at the moment).
All new DSAs from now on will simply include amd64.

The deb line for your sources.list is exactly the same as for all other
architectures, so use
deb http://security.debian.org/ sarge/updates main contrib
and have fun.

[1] All of them available from our stable-proposed-updates on
amd64.debian.net which helped us over the waiting time.

autotools or gnome bug?

Hi,

I'm trying to compile a my own program after last unstable update. For
the first time I got this error with 'configure':

configure: creating ./config.status

config.status: creating Makefile
config.status: executing default-1 commands
config.status: executing intltool commands

googling, I have read various answers and so I don't know if it's a
autotools or gnome-libs bug...

Have you any idea?

sil3114 problem

2005-08-03 Thread the . death . angel
Hello,

I got a new Computer the last days and tried to install an operating system
on it.
I used the amd64 version of sarge. When I boot, the debian installer shows,
that it loads the sil3114 module. However, when doing the partitioning,
debian shows me three independent hard disks, although I set up a raid array
in the BIOS. I know, that sil3114 is only a fake raid controller, but I
think, when the driver is loaded, the operating system should not recognize
this fact and show me the array. Am I wrong there?

Even if this is not really belonging here (but might still be a hint for a
solution), Windows XP (32 bit) crashes completely, before I am able to
create/ select a partition, no matter if the sil drivers are loaded or not.

I am using the Gigabyte GA-K8N Ulta-SLI mainboard.

I would be very thankful, if someone could help me out here. I do not want
to buy a Promise controller, but will have to, if I can not set up my system
with the sil3114.

Regards,
Matt
