Re: Uprade to Sid ... Now no GLX

2006-05-07 Thread rickh

Can't find any thing that points to such a problem. All modules are being
recognized from /usr/lib/xorg.

Only library still in /usr/X11R6/lib is libXaw, which seems unrelated.

Which one?? with the Nvidia chipset? What part number Tyan S?

When I get to the stage of installing the base system it downloads all
the packages then comes up with the error "Debootstrap warning -
Installer error: Failure trying to run: chroot /target mount -t proc
proc /proc" and won't proceed any further.

If I Alt-F4 it says:
debootstrap: chroot:
debootstrap: cannot execute mount
debootstrap: : No such file or directory

I found this problem - /target/proc never got created.

so just before that step I did Alt-F2 and
#chroot /target
#mkdir /proc

as soon as the commands became available.

Sadly, once this is fixed I couldn't get the kernel installed in a bootable
condition.

I've tried the daily, weekly, and r2 etch installer :-(

XOrg 7 has a completely different directory structure - e.g.
/usr/lib/xorg instead of /usr/X11R6/lib

Make sure that every library relevant to your 3d card is in the right
place. For nvidia users, this neccessitates nvidia-glx 1.0-8756-3 or higher

Has anyone seen this problem, and can you tell me what I
should check?

You may have managed to hit http://bugs.debian.org/343389 . Try
reinstalling the x11-common package with dpkg

--force-confmiss:

dpkg -i --force-confmiss
/var/cache/apt/archives/x11-common_*.deb

Aaron,
Thank you for the reply. I did as you suggested, but the error
remains the same.
Thanks though!

Is their any special reason your using rxvt? You can make the changes
to x-term to make it look exactly like rxvt!

Example code:

xterm -sb -sl 200 -leftbar -fg black -bg white &

I do agree that if rxvt does not work right maybe you should file a
bug report. If I remember correctly rxvt is a subset to xterm, and
might not have implemented everything yet.

Gnu_Raiz

Gnu_Raiz,
Thank you for your reply. Below is what the system tells me when I
executed the command
string you suggested, from within a Konsole window. It appears I have
a configuration problem of some sort.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xterm -sb -sl 200 -leftbar -fg black -bg white &
[1] 7723
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ Warning: Color name "white" is not defined
Warning: Cannot convert string "nil2" to type FontStruct
Warning: Unable to load any usable ISO8859 font
Warning: Unable to load any usable ISO8859 font
Warning: Color name "black" is not defined
xterm: Cannot allocate color green
xterm: Cannot allocate color red

[1]+ Donexterm -sb -sl 200 -leftbar -fg black -bg
white

After a recent 'apt-get upgrade' with no change to my sources.list file,
rxvt now works. I have no idea what has changed, but I'm now a 'happy
camper'.

I have filed this bug:

Konqueror is better than firefox which simply vanishes when there is a
flash to play (*most* of them, *some* don't make it to crash and *very
few* are dispalyed).
