Please describe your problem in linux-usb-users@lists.sourceforge.net,
there are people there who will surely help you (kernel USB developers
are subscribed there and helped me in past a lot in my problems with
USB devices).

Yep, haven't tried inside a chroot, but the problem here is exactly as u
decribed it

Amarok 1.4.0a-1+b1, kernel 2.6.15 custom-built, SMP enabled. I've also tried
to get source of amarok from Sid and compile it myself, but the problem
persists...

Ha! Yes, I suspected as much. Still, I find it disappointing that a
package entering unstable throws my system into dselect hell. It is one
thing, to be expected, that an _unstable_ package is in fact unstable,
but, to me at least, it is quite another to find the packaging
(dependencies, install scripts, etc.) is unstable.

Well, a lesson in patience.

Thank you for the reply, Giacomo.

There are still things in etch that are not installable.

For instance kde is missing kdewebdev and kdesdk, and gnome is
missing rhythmbox, totem, sound-juicer, gnome-media.

Those are all helps are missing because some other arches have
problems building them.

Problems with USB

2006-06-29 Thread Silvio Jorge Auler Junior
Title: Problems with USB

Hi all,

I'm running Debian Sarge amd64, during the boot process the system breaks the usb comunication (eg. the power of my usb mouse goes down and i have to take out and reconnect it), so only reconnecting the usb device makes the system recognize it.

Could you help me with some idea?

Thanx

This is more a debian-user question, but I'll try to answer your
questions here.

FiOS will work fine on any computer you have that can do networking.
I'm using their 5/2 package currently. They do need a Windows or Mac
machine to complete the installation, however. (They could do it just
as easily with a web interface, IMHO, but they didn't ask me.) The
software they install on your computer is nothing special, in my
experience. I've had them use the same iBook for two different FiOS
installs now and have never noticed any speed or performance difference
between the iBook and any of the other computers in the house.

Their 1-year contract packages come with a free wireless router, which
is setup for you as part of the installation. Then you simply plug in
ethernet cables or turn on wireless for any machine in your house to
use the internet connection and its as easy as any other networking.

There is an old thread in Debian-user about a problem I had getting my
Debian firewall to work in place of their wireless router. That was
eventually fixed with a few iptables rules. (Their FiOS currently uses
pppOE as well, but that's no big deal to setup on a Linux machine.)

Oh, and their system specs. are simply to try and make sure you can
take advantage of the speed, run a new enough version of Windoze, etc.
I have sucessfully used a P133 on my FiOS connection and the only
"problem" was that the debian packages downloaded worlds faster than
the computer could unpackage them and install them. :-)

HTH,
Jacob

P.S. So far their reliability is worlds better than August.net, too. I
wish they'd never been bought out by Nationwide... but that's another
story.

Thanks for the reply.

I currently have a working sarge, but I'm on dial-up so
aptitude dist-upgrade isn't practical.

The system is also in daily use, so I don't want to attempt an upgrade
and then have to spend ages picking up the pieces if it fails. What
I normally do is install the upgrade to another partition and dual-
boot. When I'm happy with the new version (or distro) I configure
it to mount the other partitions (/home etc) and make it the default
boot.

The sarge that I have installed is a bit of a hack too. The default
sarge install kernel didn't recognise my SATA controller, so I had
to boot another kernel before installing, which meant that the
modules didn't load properly and I had to do some configuration
by hand later. So I really don't want to try to upgrade it.

Maybe I'll give it a go. I'll let you know the results if I do.

Dave

Hi,
some italian's users complain etch installer is not
working (about amd64 etch)
I used the sarge cd for amd64 and after upgrade to
etch with aptitude dist-ugprade

If you try to use it, keep us updated.

Hi,

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-builds/amd64/iso-dvd/

I just noticed that the weekly build of etch for amd64 is now
3 DVDs. Does this mean that the etch DVDs are now usable?

The 3rd ISO is a little smaller than the equivalent i386 ISO.

Re: gnome difficulties

2006-06-29 Thread Craig Hagerman
Sorry. I can't be of any help in resolving this issue. Just wanted to know that I had a similar thing happen some months ago on my home machine. After some upgrading etc gnome started acting weird. I too got the notices abotu gnome-settings-daemon and some other ones about sound or about gnome-panel applets. Actually everything still seemed functional but all the icons in the menus were gone. I tried for quite a while to fix gnome without any success and ended up reinstalling the entire system (for a non-related reason).

I would be very interested to know why this happens with gnome, how to prevent it and how to fix it (other than a full reinstall)

Python in sid is undergoing a very big transition, it appears, and some
things are still broken, especially in terms of lots of messed up

transition completes, all packages depending on python packages are rebuilt
