I can find the relative deb files any more in the repositories do you have them ? found them (and it seems like all the other packages removed from the repos at snapshot.debian.net) for any one else http://hikaru.fsij.org/archive/2007/06/20/debian/pool/non-free/n/nvid ia-graphics-drivers/ Okay, I have had to down grade all the nvidia packages and also the xserver packages, only looked at the xorg package before. Will test and see if that fixes it! ran it for 24 hours and its a lot more stable, infact I was going to report back that, that had fixed it, but again trying to do something with eclipse - open a dialog box and it froze up.. i found this at the end of my xorg.log file SetGrabKeysState - disabled SetGrabKeysState - enabled and subsequently found this http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2005/11/msg00161.html which I am going to try This hasn't helped, I am still getting lock ups, not just limited to eclipse and I am on 100.14.09... The freeze is appearing at 64-bit systems and mostly Nvidia 7300 cards. Just take a look at the bugreports and the discussions at the nvidia homepage. Anyway, I suggest, to find out, which application is responsible for the freeze. IMO this could be: 1. The running kernel version 2. the kernel-module (i.e. nvidia-kernel) 3. nvidia-glx 4. eclipse itself 5. xorg So you have to exchange one after the other to find out, what is responsible for it and then write a bugreport. If you do not need 3d-acceleration, try driver nv in xorg.conf. If that works, try a higher xorg-version. Try another eclipse-version. You know what I mean. I hope, this will help a little bit, although I fear not too much. Good luck ! Hans -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Which dhcp-version ???
Dear maintainers, I wondered , which is the default version of dhclient is been installed by the debian installation process. I saw several different versions nd my last fresh installation is a long time ago (yes, Debian is running and running and running...). :) Well, at a fresh installation I use tasksel, which does not really show, what happens ( --task-desc does not work). Can you tell me, which is the state-of-the-art-version is used in debian today? dhcpd ? dhcp-client ? dhcp3-client ? Thanks for your answers ! Regards, Leo Hi Leo ! This was a fast answer. :) :-) Well, what I really wanted to know, which dhcp-version I should use at using 1. debian/testing 2. debian/sid depends of your preferences (sources.list) files. If your configuration point to testing it would choose the testing version of the package, also the sid version. (these are both, I use). Which is the default ? I think, there are different behaviours at the versions. At the moment I use dhcp3-client, which seem to be the newest one. But is it also good for newbies ??? Are the older ones orphaned in the meantime ? Hans, I trust a lot in the maintainers and debian in general. I think that that the version of the package is the minor of problems if you are using a dhcp-client in a common scenario. In general, the stable (etch) version is maintained, not orphaned in the meantime. Remember the debian way of life: - sid --- testing --- stable Regards, Leo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Mobo Intel DG965WH with Lenny or etch?
On Sun, Oct 07, 2007 at 10:07:20AM -0500, Igor TAmara wrote: Hi, I have an Intel DG965WH, I tried to use etch netinst and lenny businesscard october 6 /2007, but both of them failed on the step of CD recognition, it has two SATA HD drives, the DVD is connected through IDE, the processor is an Intel core 2 Duo. It has 4 gigs of RAM The most annoying thing is that it boots really slow, it looks like slow motion, the menus of the installation shows line per line refreshing, like a 133mhz or worst. Have anyone succesfully used this hardware? Any hints on booting the installation or maybe testing the hardware to see if something is broken? Maybe software to test if everything is right? How much ram do you have installed? A number of BIOSes have very very serious bugs in their MTRR setup on intel chipsets lately, and if you have more than 3GB of ram, some memory may not be configured as cacheable, and since linux likes to use ram from the top down you end up with the kernel in uncacheable ram and hence very slow booting. For many boards there are updated bioses to fix this mistake, but if there isn't yet you can tell the kernel at the boot command line that you have less ram than you actually have which will make it go much faster (since the small bit of uncached ram will not be used). Since you have 4GB of ram this is quite likely your problem. So check that you have the very latest BIOS version. You can test for the problem by adding 'mem=3072M' or 2048M or whatever, and see if it boots faster. If it does you can then grab the /proc/mtrr output as well as the dmesg output and post that to have someone check if the bios is making a mistake. A search on some forums seems to indicate that intel's 1705 bios does not fix it, and that people are going back to version 1669 to get a bios that does the right thing (who knows what it may break though). There is a 1707 that I haven't found any info on yet, so maybe there is a small chance it fixes the problem. Most other board makers have fixed this error by now (Asus and Gigabyte certainly have), while the kernel developers have had no luck what so ever convincing intel that they screwed up big time. There are attemps being made to make future kernels automatically disable any uncached ram if such a case occours again. AS for the DVD others seem to have pointed out that it uses an unsupported controller that needs the newer kernel so you can't help that with etch at all. -- Len Sorensen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Dell Vostro 1700 sound problem
Hi, I have a brand new Dell Vostro 1700 that works nicely with Debian Lenny AMD64 latest version of everything. It appears to do what it should do except the sound: I cannot get it to make any sound (which it did under the factory installed Windows Vista). Although I like it to be quite sometimes I really would like to hear my MP3 collection with rather loud hardrock. Is there anyone with a similar computer that actually has sound? Anyone any suggestion of how to get te sound working? TIA -- Groeten, Joost Kraaijeveld Askesis B.V.
