They're not very useful if you need out of tree modules, and the kernel
team doesn't seem very interested in this as an issue. If you don't,
they're probably fine.

The debian kernel team provides experimental kernels at
deb http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel trunk main

If you want an experimental kernel, I suggest you
try those instead.

Amarok 2

2009-03-04 Thread Christopher Judd
Hi,

I recently upgraded to stable and added kde4 and amarok
2.0.60+svn934288-1 from experimental. Kde4 works fine, althogh I had to
manually migrate my kmail settings. Unfortunately, amorok (the main
reason that I tried this) doesn't work. It crashes upon startup with
the following output:

I know that this is an experimental package, but does anyone have any

Due to weeks of delayin the NEW queue there wasn't enough time left to
do even half way decent testing in time for the Lenny release so it is
unstable only.

See here:

It's just a warning about a future change in module-init-tools. You only
have to rename your own, locally created files in /etc/modprobe.d/. If
you don't have any, all you have to do is wait for the maintainers to
rename these files. I am not sure whether it will cause any problems if
you do it yourself, though.

If you do have hotplug support then don't forget to mdadm --remove sda
form all raids before pulling the disk.

modprobe, lots of warnings

2009-03-04 Thread Hans-J. Ullrich
Hi all,

after my last update (debian-amd64, sid), I get a lot of warnings like these:

WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/kqemu, it will be
ignored in a future release.
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/sound, it will be
ignored in a future release.
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/linux-sound-base_noOSS,
it will be ignored in a future release.
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat, it will be
ignored in a future release.
..
..
...
and so on.

I think, something major has changed. Is this a bug or will "*.conf" files be
shipped with the next package or kernel?

Regards

Hans
