Re: libc6 and X11 seem not to work together

2009-10-01 Thread Cédric Boutillier
Hi,

The problem with the X server is due to a bug in the xserver-xorg-core
package in unstable (2:1.6.4-1). It has been reported several times (see
e.g. #548716).

Downgrading to 2:1.6.3.901-1 from testing solves the problem
(temporarily).

Best,

Cédric

Re: FGLRX and ATI XPRESS 200M

You'll probably have to remove also the Composite extension entry:
that is what I had to do, since fglrx seems to disable Direct
Rendering if an experimental option is enabled in xorg.conf.

Re: Debian AMD64 freeze ! (Update)

It might be a problem with the bcm43xx driver. Indeed, I experienced
several lockups with debian ppc on my ibook. The last message was
exactly the same as yours, where bcm43xx restarts the controller.

I have exactly the same kind of errors. It is related to the problem
exposed in the
thread nvidia error -xorg doesn't start.

Comment in /etc/X11/Xsession.options the line mentioning ssh-agent.

This looks like the same problem that I am having at the minute as I am
getting exactly the same error message when I try and login. In think the
problem is to do with the openssh-client segfaulting. My guess is that you
are using ssh-askpass (as I am) to start your kde / gnome session.

The bug that seems to be most relevant is this one:

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=328606

only it was filed against 1:4.2p1-3 and the current version that seems to be
in error is 1:4.2p1-5 I suppose the bug might have popped back up. Can anyone
confirm that this is what is causing this bug.

What makes me think this is the problem is whenever I try and use anything
that relies on openssh-client such as ssh or ssh-askpass I get a segfault
message in the syslog like this:

Oct 18 14:07:20 localhost kernel: ssh-agent[6705]: segfault at
 000114211b2c rip 2ac40817 rsp 7fdbaa48 error 4
Oct 18 14:13:06 localhost kernel: ssh[6763]: segfault at 00014a00432c rip
 2ac40817 rsp 7fce6e58 error 4

Anyway that's my best guess. If it's not related I would apprecaite help with
this problem because I too can't log in.

 Cheers,

 Graham

Re: amd64 bootsplash howto

2005-09-19 Thread Cédric Boutillier
That is surely cleaner, but with this package, it seems you don't have
the possibility to put a picture in the background of your consoles
tty1-6, contrary to what you can do with bootsplash :(

Re: amd64 bootsplash howto

2005-09-18 Thread Cédric Boutillier
I managed to make bootsplash run from the i386 packages available on
http://www.bootsplash.de/files/debian/. I am not sure that my
installation is very clean, but it works.

* I patched and recompiled my kernel
* I first downloaded the theme I wanted:
bootsplash-theme-debblue_0.5-5_all.deb
* then I opened the .deb to remove the dependency on the bootsplash
package (there is a proble of circular dependency) and repacked it
   dpkg-deb -x bootsplash-theme-debblue_0.5-5_all.deb tmp
   dpkg-deb -e bootsplash-theme-debblue_0.5-5_all.deb tmp/DEBIAN
   vim tmp/DEBIAN/control
   fakeroot dpkg-deb -b tmp
   # dpkg -i tmp.deb

* then I downloaded bootsplash_3.1-9_i386.deb and installed with dpkg
  # dpkg -i --force-architecture bootsplash

* To make the progression bar work, it was more difficult, since the
package sysv-rc-bootsplash furnishing the patches for rc and rc.S are
not adapted to the scripts present in /etc/init.d
I unpacked this package and by looking at the paches, I tried to
modify myself the script /etc/init.d/rc

I attach my script. If you can do better, please tell me.

Grub splashimages works perfectly, I was actually talking about
graphical system v init process, rather then the grub splash screens.

and then installed libdjvulibre 15.
I hope it will work for you too.
