Try man update-pciids

Unfortunately I couldn't get 'update-pciids' to work. It complained
about a compressed file and I have gzip and bzip2 installed.

(I am running Sarge i386 but soon I'll be running AMD64 :-))

Warnings are not errors. Things will normally work with a warning but
tend not to work on an error.

I used to think that as well. Apparently most distributions are not
secure *out of the box*. It takes more work/skill to secure Linux than
it does to secure Windows XP. Hence there are probably more secure XP
installations out there than Linux boxes. Viruses and spyware are
another matter.

That is my understanding. Of course I may be wrong, but it is probably
the best way to lean. :-)

Good idea.

Remember once you install a version of Debian (Woody, Sarge, Etch ...)
then you only need to dist-upgrade to the next one, no need to
reinstall.

Have a look at FVWM, it is very configurable and with fvwm-themes
installed it shows what is possible.

Sorry, I'm not running AMD64 and don't know if fvwm is available for
that arch. Also fvwm-themes does not seem to be available in the Debian
archives for some reason.

Hi,

Noticed that on http://www.debian.org/intro/organization there is no

apparently neither is

This is not yet an official Debian internal project but it has

There is also:

corrections to debian-www@lists.debian.org

I have not done this as I don't know all the info.

After a quick search through the postgresql-doc package I found
postgresql-doc/TODO.detail/performance.gz
which compares Oracle + PostgreSQL.

Here in NZ we have MENS, which stands for Multiple Earth Neutral System,
where the neutral is earthed at various strategic places along the
distribution network. Maybe a google could shed more light :-)

As I understand it, "testing" is the testing ground for the next stable
release, Etch, which is nearly ready so at this point in time testing is
good to start with but ...

... once Etch is the new stable, "testing" will be codenamed 'Lenny' and
will be the testing ground for the next stable release. As a consequence
"testing" will start receiving packages, and the associated bugs, from
unstable. If a bug is fixed it will take approximately 10 days for the
fix to reach testing.

Because of this I recommend to either run Etch or sid because Lenny will
probably be horribly broken. This was evident immediately after the
release of Sarge when users had testing in their 'sources.lst' -- check
the archives of the debian-user mailing list.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
