K8 Mainboard addition
Mobo : Abit AN8 Ultra (NForce4 Ultra) ATA : amd74xx SATA : sata_nv Sound : intel8x0 Network : forcedeth Installed with the 2.6.12 Len Sorensen installer - Thanks for the great work Other hardware running smoothly: Pinnacle PCTV Pro : bttv, msp3400 Logitech quickcam express : spca5xx (Thanks to Michel Xhaard for making this module) HP PSC 2610 (MemoryCardreader,Scanner and Printer working - Fax not working) HighPoint Rocket 1520 : hpt366 Nvidia 7800GT : A _big_ thanx to the debian people which made module-assistant. Athlon64 3800+ X2 : Finally [EMAIL PROTECTED] at an affordable price. Couple of things which are of small annoyance: 1. Abit hasn't released any spec on the uGuru chip, but I have found some small program to atleast read the sensors. It would be _so_ nice to do realtime OC'ing. 2. SATA spindown is broken, atleast I believe so when reading the kernel lists and hearing my 4 SATA disk spinning on full spaad all day long. 3. Sound cannot be captured directly from the PCTV Pro using btaudio - because of "bad wiring"? 4. The hardware sound controls on my USB-headset (a Plantronics GameCom Pro) is not working - alsamixer works fine... 5. My Plextor DVD-burner hickups sometimes usning mkisofs/growisofs - reports busy device or something like that. A couple of questions: 1. I'm thinking of buying a SATA controller to put in one of the PCI Express X1 slots. Chipset is SiL3132. Is the support OK in recent kernels? 2. I'm thinking of changing the PCTV Pro to a Hauppauge! WinTV PVR500 MCE. Anyone know if the support in ivtv is OK for this card? -- .O. Scream, Scream like the silence of the bits. ..O Dead lies the flag by the feet of the cold one. Re: lineakd doesn't work
I did take a shot at it. But after some hacking and gdbing, I gave in because of lack of time. The code in lineakd is sverely broken, and it is a miracle that it works on i386. The errors is mostly when reading the config-file(s). In functions where stripping spaces and control chars are done, there are lots of bugs. I will try further when my time-schedule permits it... Warning (Nvidia 6629, Kernel 2.6.10 and latest XFree86)
Had a bit of a strange happening here. Suddenly (after reboot and upgrading to 2.6.10 and reinstalling nvidia drivers from NVidia), my /usr/X11R6/lib64 had become a plain dir, and not a symlink to /usr/X11R6/lib. Result was that I had no OpenGL, and glxinfo segfaulted. I had to remove lib64 and resymlink to lib, and ofcourse reinstall the nvidia driver. Just a warning, so you who experience the same doesn't have to waste the same amount of time as I did... -- .O. I had the exact same problem on my previous GFX-card (MSI GeForce FX5600). The problem was when running 3D apps like OpenGL-screensavers, the GPU got too hot. When I downclocked the GPU and Mem on the GFX-card. the problem went away. So, it's probably some weak hardware on your GFX-card (And you might look into getting a chassis with better airflow). Re: Official 2.6.8 kernel not booting?
The order of which the disk-device handling modules are loaded is _very_ important. Len Sorensen helped me sometime ago with the same problem. The order solved my problem. Re: AMD64 mainboard with X-PCI ?
Some snippet from another news-site: The New PCI bus; PCI Express One of the biggest changes to the PC this year will be the introduction of a new PC bus called PCI Express (PCIX). PCIX will replace the current PCI bus that has a speed of 133 Mb/s, with a new bus that has speeds that start at 250 Mb/s and can scale to over 1000 Mb/s. PCIX will also replace the Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP). So new graphics cards will no longer have to fit in only one slot. Motherboards with the PCIX bus should start appearing this Summer, so new graphics cards that use the PCIX bus should start appearing shortly thereafter. Makes you wonder if we'll see new PCIX motherboards with AGP slots for those that want to keep using their AGP cards. If they're not totally wrong, then: PCI-X = PCI Express Ben Wang ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) wrote: > > In The Night wrote: > > >Ben Wang ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) wrote: > > > > > >>There won't be any A64 boards with more than PCI 32-bit 33mhz. > >> > >> > >Wrong. > > > > > >Snip from ananova: > > > >VIA just launched their first reference boards using PCI Express on the > >Athlon 64. This is only important because i _really_ want to compile my own customized kernel, and I haven't done this since 2.0.21, I think it was... And I'm trying to get into kernel customizing in general. I probably should put this question in some other mailing-list, but since the amd64 port is a really evolving port, problems and solutions are more like a day2day issue. ANd the Panic was: pivot_root: No such file or directory /usr/sbin..
