Do you have more than one module? Some Socket 754 motherboards can not use the Cool & Quiet feature of the A64 if there are more than one module, or it is placed in other dimm sockets than the first. If this is the case, it will probably cause data corruption, which is not entirely your symptom, but it may be worth checking. /Jacob -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: Future of multiarch?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Thomas Steffen wrote: > Any comments? Is there a place where multiarch is actively discussed? > Or is there even an example distribution that does something similar? At my university, they run what looks like a working multiarch implementation on an AFS network filesystem. With the aid of symlinks using some sort of @sys variable, they are able to use the same path specifications for both some Sun SPARC servers, and their Debian i386 terminals. They have used this structure for some time now, and I think it is an elegant way of making multiarch transparent. However some work is probably required if it were to be implemented as multiarch on a single machine. Additionally, I have no idea how well something like this applies to dpkg/apt. /Jacob -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFCWFLeiAWIAI3xXVYRAixMAJ99VfKh3wx1WEQ2EfjN96bpmF5VowCgvm+G psvSBfXS1rY4d58Lc+u7W3I= =6OKS -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: Normal buildtime for a kernel?
Lennart Sorensen wrote: Well at least very similar speeds seem not too unreasonable. I am not sure if the 64bit pointers would hurt the performance of gcc in any way. It does have to move more bytes around than a 32bit machine. it is certainly faster at many tasks. It is probably not as much the 64 bit pointers that could be a problem, but register allocation to the extra registers (propably only gcc 3.4+). But then again. These registers are also available to the compiler, so it may cancel out this effect. /Jacob -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Re: lyx rather than openoffice
Lennart Sorensen wrote: I do personally prefer LaTex for writing documents myself, but I sure don't like lyx for doing it. I just write it in vim and write a makefile to process it with latex when I type :make, and if there is an error vim jumps to the line with the error. Makefile you say? Is it something that can check when you need to do an extra latex/bibtex to update references, and thus save some processing? Is this makefile something you would be willing to share? Currently I am just using a simple shell script to run it through latex and bibtex a couple of times, make ps/pdf etc. /Jacob -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Although I have not used lyx (when I started with latex, I was told it sucked), latex can only open plain text files, as it is just a typesetting language "compiler". When this is said, I agree, that latex is great for creating academic reports/articles etc. The design facilitates a consistent look of the resulting work. The reason why latex can not replace openoffice is that there is a lot of overhead when setting up a document. Besides, the only thing, that can be replaced by latex is word processing (the creation part). And maybe presentation, but I don't know that part of latex very well. /Jacob -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Lennart Sorensen wrote: Well I know the AC97 on the nforce2 uses intel810 style access, so try snd-intel8x0 driver (the alsa driver), or i810audio (oss driver although I wouldn't use that one personally). Perhaps nforce4 is similar that way. I'm pretty sure you are right. My nforce3 board uses the ALC850 codec, and this is the way I got it working. /Jacob -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It looks like you have run into this (also an issue in 32 bit 2.6.8+ kernels): http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=2300 I "solved" this problem on my k8n-e deluxe using the old depreciated kernel module. If you use this, remember that the disk will be named /dev/hd* instead of /dev/sd*. Also make sure that the new libata modules are not loaded, as they conflict with this. /Jacob
