Re: strange packages - Question

2010-02-15 Thread Juan P. Rigol Sanchez
Hi,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but with regard to this I was also
wondering why linux-image-amd64 is pointing to
linux-image-2.6.32-trunk-amd64 and not to linux-image-2.6.32-2-amd64,
which seems to be the latest kernel (my X session hangs when running the
former).

Thanks,
JP

 Hi all,
Moin,

I wondered what is the difference between the two packages

linux-image-amd64 and linux-image-2.6-amd64. Both seem to be
meta- packages, and both want to install the same kernel.

Is there a difference at all? If yes, which one is preferred for
 which purposes?

linux-image-amd64 will install 2.8.x and 3.0.x also,
linux-image-2.6-amd64 will only install 2.6.x kernels.

 Regards

 Hans

NetworkManager not working

2007-08-06 Thread Juan P. Rigol Sanchez
Hi all,

NetworkManager 0.6.4 is not detecting my ethernet card (gnome) in my
new HP Compaq dc7700 pc (running lenny amd64) and shows an error icon on
the notification panel. Networking is ok but I have to manually activate
network connection in some programs such as evolution, which is a bit a
pain in the neck.
I was wondering if it can be somehow configured to detect the eth card
or just uninstalled.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Juan P. Rigol

Help on understanding noapic nolapic noacpi/acpi=off boot options

2007-07-16 Thread Juan P. Rigol Sanchez
Hi all,

I have installed (after several attempts) debian lenny amd64 on a new HP
Compaq dc7700 pc (intel core 2 duo 6600 with integrated Q963/Q965
chipset graphics), but the system hangs if noapic nolapic noacpi
acpi=off options are not given at boot time.
I was wondering how these options affect normal operation of the pc
(fan/cooling, peripherals?, performance??)
(kernel 2.6.21-2-amd64 x86_64 ; with 2.6.18-4-amd64 boots using just
acpi=off).

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Juan P. Rigol
