If not, you need to append "nvidia" > to the end of /etc/modules No, it was not autoloaded on startup. Appending the "nvidia" to /etc/modules resolved the issues. Although it is a bit strange, why this became necessary, because with kernel 2.6.11 and without udev it worked without "nvidia". It seems to be causing a lot of grief lately. kernel from package linux-image-2.6.12-1-amd64-k8 , version 2.6.12-1 udev version: 0.063-1 :) I think, I can survive w/o udev at the moment - the manual start of kdm on each system boot is very annoying. wbr, Kirill. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". udev @ (kernel 2.6.12 + NVidia) = KDM failure on first start
Hi all! After installing the udev package, I met with the following problem: after the system boot, the KDM tries to start and fails. The X-server log says: --- (II) Setting vga for screen 0. (**) NVIDIA(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32 (==) NVIDIA(0): RGB weight 888 (==) NVIDIA(0): Default visual is TrueColor (==) NVIDIA(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0) (--) NVIDIA(0): Linear framebuffer at 0xB000 (--) NVIDIA(0): MMIO registers at 0xFC00 (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device! (EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting *** (II) UnloadModule: "nvidia" (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. Fatal server error: no screens found --- The problem doesn't depend on X-server version, I tried both X.org and Xfree86. The most interesting is that if I will start the kdm manually via /etc/init.d/kdm start -- it starts fine. If I remove the 'udev' - everything works fine. The installed version of udev: Version: 0.063-1, the versions of kernel/nvidia drv/xserver - are latest. Does anybody have any idea what can it be? :) Best regards, Kirill. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [update] More 32bit packages for amd64
Hi! By the way, can the same (or modified) approach be used for the installation of 32bit Flash Player Plugin? wbr, Kirill. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [update] More 32bit packages for amd64
Hi! > As always, report success or failure please. Everything passed well - many thanks! I used sarge repository, because there are some problems with libraries in etch/sid - they seem to be doing transition to the new version of Word Perfect support library, named libwpd8c2 instead of libwpd8 -- the OO package deps are not updated so the etch/sid installation didn't work for me. It would be nice to have some more messages during lists update/packages fetching -- on slow connections it is difficult to understand is it stuck or still doing something. (I used 'du /var/lib/amd64-archive/lists' and 'du /var/lib/amd64-archive/pool' to check if the script still working). wbr, Kirill. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
