A x86_64 Windows driver is required for x86_64 support. Not all chipsets have a x86_64 Windows XP drivers and only the Broadcom chipset is officially supported under x86_64 for now. Do you have a nividia display card? if you do then you might have installed a custom kernel. and for some reason even if u dont have the devfsd installed it will still load up devfs what i did was reinstall everything and i didnt select any pacakge from base-config instead i bailed out and installed udev first and then fired up aptitude and installed other stuff. how ever i am having some problems getting nvidia drivers running again i dont need 3d accel but the nv driver currupts the text mode display when you get out of x. and gnome-volume-manager needs udev... so thats the only reason i need udev. Re: Installing debian-amd64
for the sources problem: Keep in mind that the amd64 port is still not in the official archives, but the installer is already configured to work as if it was. Thus, you have to point it to alioth or a mirror when it comes to downloading packages: Choose http as protocol. Then choose the first option which will let you enter the information. Enter the host as "debian.inode.at" or "debian-amd64.alioth.debian.org" or "bach.hpc2n.umu.se" or "bytekeeper.as28747.net". Enter the directory as "/pure64" on the next screen. Enter the proxy, if any, on the next screen. Choose unstable as the distribution. There are no stable or testing distributions available so far. Testing will become available within the next few weeks, as soon as the scripts on alioth are ready. From: https://alioth.debian.org/docman/view.php/30192/21/debian-amd64-howto.html for the grub and windows thing do this: go to /boot/grub/menu.list and add this title Stinky OS rootnoverify (hd0,0) chainloader +1 boot This ought to work and yeah you dont need to update grub just edit the file and reboot.!!! hmm sorry i hit reply instead of reply to all so yeah while you are installing and when it asks for the install method(http, ftp etc) at that time hit alt+f2 at that time type in "nano /etc/apt/sources.list" that ought to work and then add the file uri if that dont work i will have to see it as soon as i get home Regards, K.
