Re: GNOME and Firefox not working on latest unstable
Hello All,the problem was related to libntfs9 and libntfs-gnomevfs: basically I had a problem with the libntfs.conf file and it involved GNOME as well. Renaming libntfs.conf and running: apt-get install --reinstall libntfs9 libntfs-gnomevfsfixed the issue. Thanks Giacomo for your support!Regards, Max2006/7/26, Giacomo Mulas [EMAIL PROTECTED]:On Wed, 26 Jul 2006, Massimo Perga wrote: Hello All, I've updated two days ago my unstable version of Debian for AMD64 and it seems that GNOME has some troubles to be executed: the same happens also with gnome-terminal and firefox (it takes the 99% of resources but it's not shown). I don't know what exactly did the trick, though. I suspect it was either libc orlibntfs, which had left a bogus /etc/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/libntfs.conf (adirectory instead of a configuration file), which I had to fix by hand after seeing the error issued by dpkg. Before all, thank you for your support. Could you please send me the apt string or the URL where I can download the AMD64 Blackdown package ? I'm currently using Firefox web browser. Do you mean, How did you install it?I'm using Blackdown java1.4.2 on Debian unstable, which includes a Mozilla / Nutscrape /Firefox plugin. The usual way to install Java is using 'java-package' to build a deb from a Java distribution (e.g. Sun java). Here is a guide,if you'd like one:http://www.crazysquirrel.com/computing/debian/java.jspx I'm using Blackdown Java because the amd64 version of Sun's Java1.5 is _very_ unstable.Installing is fine, but good luckrunning programs using it.1.4.2 is not ideal, but at least Ican get Azureus running. Maybe you're using software that is not well developed or compatible with newer JRE, that is stable and faster than 1.4. -- Alessandro Dal Grande Student In The University Of Padua - Computer Science Linux Registered User #359258 System: GNU/Linux Debian Sid Pure64 on [EMAIL PROTECTED] Chat: Psi ICQ) 150487234 Jabber) [EMAIL PROTECTED] Home: http://v0n0.altervista.org-- Massimo Perga __Computer EngineerVia Valentino Carrera 6110146 TorinoItalyTel: +393479806753__
WLAN on Acer Aspire 1513LMi or WG511
Hi All, I've a Netgear WG511 (The v1 made in China) on a PCMCIA slot and an AMD64-based Laptop running 64bit-Debian: I needed to use that card to access to my WLAN in Linux, too. I've read about prism54 and ndiswrapper, but both seems to be full working only if running 32-bit drivers; in fact it'd seem no manufacturer releases 64-bit version of its driver. In alternative, I've the integrated WiFi Lan - it should be a 54 MBit-WLAN- Chip: Broadcom Corporation BCM94306 802.11g (rev 03) - which works fine under Windows (XP Home Edition 32bit). Thanks in advance, Regards, Max
802.11g drivers
Hi all, I'm actually using an Acer Aspire 1513LMi (AMD64 3400+) with debian-amd64 distribution and I'd want use my 802.11g device; Acer tells that's its name is InviLink. Actually I can't find an appropriate driver for Linux on AMD64: in fact it seems that the only support for Linux is ndiswapper (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/). This driver allow to use Windows WLAN drivers, so I should not have any problem if I use a Linux 32-bit kernel because of 32-bit Windows drivers. Ndiswapper developers aren't actually supporting 64-bit kernels because of the lack of 64-bit Windows drivers. So, do you know if there's a solution to this issue ? I could try to modify ndiswrapper sources to achieve my goal but I need to know if it's possible to run 32-bit assembly instruction in a 64-bit kernel module. Can you suggest me a link where I can get the documentation ? Thanks in advance, Max Libero ADSL: navighi gratis a 1.2 Mega, senza canone e costi di attivazione.
