Quake 4 and twinview

2005-10-23 Thread Michele Concina
I've just installed quake 4, i've started it but it show me the game on
both my monitors..how can i configure it to play just on one?
With enemy territory i don't have this problem, but anyway i post my
twinview configuration..maybe there's something wrong there:

Section Device
Identifier NVIDIA Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600]
Driver nvidia
BusID PCI:1:0:0
Option TwinView
Option MetaModes 1280x1024, 1280x1024; 1280x1024
Option SecondMonitorHorizSync31.5-69
Option SecondMonitorVertRefresh 47.5-125
Option TwinViewOrientation LeftOf
EndSection

I've tried with both metamodes..it doesn't work!
Thank you for any suggestion,
michele

I know that this is solvable...

Are you mixing distributions (stable/unstable sid/sarge?) because that
was my problem. I don't think it's really possible to mix the two

If you mixed 'em, the only way I know to counter that without
reinstalling absolutely everything is to take aptitude and uninstall
everything except the base system. However, I think that at that rate
it'd be easier to reinstall debian...

Mmh..don't think is a problem of mixing distribution..if i try to get
just the source of kdelibs4 it returns the error package not
found..maybe i should change my repositories..

The only thing with gentoo is that it's really hard to install...

yeh, but gentoo has also the best documentation between GNU/Linux
distributions, so it shouldn't be too hard..just the time to learn some
new operations that the debian installer makes more for dummies : D

though otherwise I'm convinced it's better than debian for desktop
users.

i don't think that it is always better than debian..if u have an old
machine to compile everything could take days..

mmh..i'm not lazy, i was just thinking that was useless to install a
virus scanner and other stuff on my debian : )
So, what do u suggest to me to secure my os? there is a quick guide
somewhere that explains some basic steps to do?

thank you!

mmh..just a stupid question..do i need a virus scanner? r there virus
for linux? i thought that was impossible to be infected coze how can a
virus install itself if i use my os not as root?
I'm just a newbie so i don't know so much about security on debian and
GNU/Linux systems

problem mounting dvd-rw

2005-10-06 Thread Michele Concina

Hello!
I'm running debian amd64 unstable with kernel 2.6.12 and i'm not able to
mount my dvd-rw.

Why i try to mount it, it say to me:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd0
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

The output of dmesg | tail is:

sr0: rw=0, want=653152, limit=4
attempt to access beyond end of device
sr0: rw=0, want=652128, limit=4
attempt to access beyond end of device
sr0: rw=0, want=651904, limit=4
attempt to access beyond end of device
sr0: rw=0, want=1252, limit=4
attempt to access beyond end of device
sr0: rw=0, want=1028, limit=4
UDF-fs: No partition found (1)

My fstab is:

# file system mount point type options dump pass
proc/proc procdefaults0 0
/dev/sda1 / ext3defaults,errors=remount-ro 01
/dev/sda6 /home ext3defaults0 2
/dev/sda5 noneswapsw 0 0
/dev/scd1 /media/dvdiso9660,udf ro,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/scd0 /media/dvdrw iso9660,udf ro,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/fd0/media/floppy0 autorw,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/sdc1 /media/kusb vfatrw,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/sdb1 /media/kusb2vfatrw,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/sdd1 /media/kusb3vfatrw,user,noauto 0 0

I don't know if it's useful, but if i open k3b it recognize both the dvd
and the dvd-rw as burners.

Thank you for any suggestion,
michele

What if you try iso9660 only as in

isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=sr0, iso_blknum=16, block=16

Maybe the disk is bad? Is it all disks?

The disk is ok..it makes the same with all disks
