AMD 64 CPU Chip Selection Question
Hello all. I'm looking to build a new system for Debian Linux. I'm going with an AMD64 chip. However, does the Linux AMD 64 kernel support AMD64, AMD64 X2 Dual Core, and AMD64 FX? Do they all work with the same AMD64 build? Thanks for the help! :)
Re: OT: Windows Installer
http://nsis.sourceforge.net/ NSIS is a great system for making installers. Not sure if this will work for you but just in case the above link has all the info. GL. But I don't think it is that easy/cheap to obtain a tool to create .msi packages which means that a lot of other formats exist. An yes. This is a Bad Thing(TM). offtopic You can target MSI files from Visual Studio .NET. Well, at least in 2003. IF you don't have it and/or want more customizations, you can use WiX that MS released on sourceforce as OSS, http://wix.sf.net It builds MSI files from XML sources. If you get it running, please let me know what you had to do ... thanks. Debian/amd64 requires 2.6 because of NPTL. OpenMosix doesn't support 2.6 really yet... Idea for structure of Apt-Get
Hello. I'm not sure if anyone has suggested something like this or not but I was thinking about the apt-get system and bittorrent today. What if the apt-get system was redesigned so that users could download updates and upgrades from other users? This way they would trickle out to people, slowly at first, but then more and more people would have the update and thus more people could get it faster. I know there would probably be a lot of security issues involved but then maybe people wouldn't have to worry about setting up .deb mirrors and trying to get the latest upgrades. Just a thought. If it's a bad one, let me know. :) -Patrick -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Monitor Out of Range Error with xf86
Hello. I brought my AMD64 system home over spring break and I'm trying to configure it for another monitor. Whenever I try to configure with xf86config, and startx, it the monitor goes gray with wavey lines and says out of range. I looked up the properties on my gateway EV900 monitor and everything seems correct. I can't seem to figure out what the problem is. Everything works great with my other monitor. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! -Patrick -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Java on AMD64 Question
Well, I still can't figure out the path but it seems the Bluej.org software that I use, when extracted and installed automatically figured out where Java is and it works great with Bluej. :) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: Java on AMD64 Question
Thanks everyone for the help. I went and got the 64 bit version from Sun. I installed it per this tutorial: http://home.bredband.no/gaulyk/java/tutorial/javaredhat.html#Installing%20the%20Software However, I'm not quite sure how to set my $PATH value. There is no profile.d folder. I tried creating one but it didn't seem to work. What's the easiest way to setup the path?
