What package do I need to get it running?

GoogleEarth install

2006-07-26 Thread Rob Blomquist
I am getting a series of errors from GE on install:

timmy:/home/robbo# DISPLAY=:0.0 ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing Google Earth for GNU/Linux
4.0.1693..
setup.data/bin/Linux/amd64/setup.gtk2: error while loading shared libraries:
libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory

Where do I get libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0?

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

Note that my initial command was DISPLAY=:0.0 ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin, I don't
understand that with my DISPLAY set why this should occur?

Java and firefox

2006-07-21 Thread Rob Blomquist
Exactly how does one get it running?

I DL'd the x64 client from Sun, which recommends using the 32 bit client also
for java script.

I have downloaded both, putting the 32 bit client inside the chroot, and
putting the 64 bit client in /usr/local/jre

I have also put the location of the 64 bit client in my path, but to no avail?
I pointed Konqueror at it, and its working fine.

How can I get Firefox and Java to play together?

I am unaware that one could point debootstrap, or for that matter apt-get
could be used in such away. I thought one had to point at a specific ftp
location.

Thanks for putting me down.

I really needed that.

How does one shift this to get chroot running sarge or etch instead of sid?
And how the heck do I point it at a more local server? I am still figuring
out apt-get, but I am slaved to the links preconfigured. bootstrap has me
baffled.

debootstrap --arch i386 sid /var/chroot/sid-ia32
http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian

These must be built up for etch, as they have dependencies that my machine
knows nothing about.

New to 64 bit/Sorta new to Debian....

2006-07-14 Thread Rob Blomquist
I am currently running the unofficial sarge port to 64bits, and while I am now
happy to have a computer back (building the new one took about 6 weeks, due
to a crappy online seller), I am a little bummed to find myself seemingly out
in the cold. I am a desktop user, running Linux for about 6-7 years, mostly
on the RH side, having moved over to Debian about 3 months ago.

First question how stable is etch? Should I just move on over right now, or
should I wait a little?

For those running Sarge, how can one upload openoffice? It appears to be in a
vicious circle, not wanting to upload due to no dependancies being selected,
add them into the upload, and it still fails? Could I run the 32 bit version,
or could I force the issue somehow?

How about Backports? Is there hope of getting something newer though them?
What about Sarge source packages? Can I compile them on this machine and end
up with 64 bit code?

Thanks-

Rob
