Your chipset appears newer than sarge, so full support is very unlikely.
many intel chipsets support a dumb mode in which it combines the sata
and ide devices into one pile of ide devices (for dos/windows installer
compatibility) which makes the linux driver (at least in the kernel used
by sarge) confused so it either sees the ide devices or the sata but not
both. Setting the bios to native/enhanced mode rather than
combined/emulation mode tends to make that problem go away. On the
other hand some systems (mainly Dell) won't even let you have such a
bios option.

You may have better luck with the daily builds since they have newer
drivers (2.6.15 kernel).

Or you can see if 2.6.12 kernel is better and use my sarge installer
from www.tinyplanet.ca/~lsorense/amd64/

Good luck.

I checked it and was correct. I had a similar problem with Gentoo LiveCD
for amd64. The system
wan't able to see my SATA disc.. I can still boot from ubuntu ( for
amd64 ) and install Debian from
chroot. But I didn't see any informations how to do this in Debian docs..

Netinst cd wasn't able to mount itself to fire the installer...

2006-03-07 Thread Timmyah
Hi
I have such a problem: I've downloaded debian-amd64 'netinst' cd
( from
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/sarge-amd64/iso-cd/debian-31r0a-amd64-netinst.iso
)
but after boot, installer isn't able to 'mount cd' ( as it screams ) to
continue the installation.. It asked me
to choose the proper module for my cdrom and choose the valid /dev/
but when I've went to
a 2nd term and listed all files in /dev/ there wasn't any device file
for my cdrom :/

This is what lspci talks at my gentoo:

I have a LG combo ( DVD-R/CD-R). It's weird.. I haven't any problems
until yesterday..
Does anyone have any idea how can I install smd64 - Debian in other way
( or maybe other install cds or dvds
have a different kernel? )
