The high quality uses another compression method, when I remember
correct. And that one is broken in Debian since KDE 3.1.4:-(

Yes !  Very good !  This fixed the problem.  Great.

I simply changed the quality from high to medium.  I interpreted this parameter as the network speed.  I am not sure why it fixes it, but it does.

Thanks

No, but here it works when I decrease resolution which is used. Do
_not_ use "high quality". With middle or low it works. From i386 to
AMD64 and vice versa.

Re: kde remote desktop (krfb & krdc) under amd64: anyone using it successfully ?

2005-08-25 Thread James D. Freels

I have double-checked with another Debian/Sarge/i386 and made sure the remote-desktop server is set up identical with that of the Debian/Sarge/amd64 remote desktop server.  I can access the desktop remotely on the i386, but not the amd64.  Since no one has acknowledged or denied this bug in this mailing list, then it looks like it is time to file a bug report.  Of course, the bug will likely be rejected, will it not, since amd64 is not an officially released distribution.  But, according to the amd64 FAQ, bugs are to be filed on the official Debian bug reporting system.

Has anyone using Debian/Testing/amd64 or Debian/Unstable/amd64 acknowledged this bug ?

I have tried to get this working in amd64.  I am running identically to the setup on my i386, but it seems to misbehave.  In particular, I set up the server to allow uninvited guests at port 5900 with a password.  Then on the client, I attempt to connect.  It does through the authenticate step and then on to ask for the password.  After I enter the password, the authenticate step comes back up without opening the remote desktop.  At that point, it is completely dis-functional.

Anyone else got this working ?  If so, what is the trick here ?

More info:

this time, I entered a blank for the password requirement.  The remote desktop appeared to open up and gave me the menu at the top and the little box for the mouse.  But no actual desktop itself.  Then the authentication box reappears and totally disfunctional still.

I haven't tried, but I remember there were vnc problems on amd64 which I
don't know if have been fixed yet. I wonder if it is related by any
chance.
