seahorse (gnome, gpg) encryption error
Been having problems with Seahorse and encryption from gnome. (Nautilus, Gedit, Evolution) When I try to sign, I get the error "Couldn't Load Keys" When I try to Encrypt, it loads the keys for selection and then exists when I try to encrypt without and error. It was working before I upgraded from sarge to testing, Is anyone else facing this same problem? I created a new user to test out any config issues, but the very same problem persists. In Evolution I get the message : "Broken Pipe, you might need to select different options", when I try to send mail, but it verifies signed mails. Logs reveal this: kernel: seahorse-tool[6411] general protection rip:2b8efb68db3a rsp:7fffaec24200 error:0 If this is indeed a bug, someone should be seeing something similar. Closest is this, but filed against vesion seahorse 0.90.2 (unsure) http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=363528 (I should mention that I can use gpg from the command line without errors) -- Running on testing, AMD64, Kernel 2.6.17-2 Seahorse : 0.9.5-2 any ideas? with best regards, Erle Pereira, Systems Consultant web: http://www.erlepereira.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". If you want to run my script you need to configure it for your system. I guess I'll go into more detail. 1. In Linux 2.6 all the lm_sensors drivers create sysfs "files". You need to find your CPU sensor file. 'cd /sys/bus/i2c/devices' and see what's there; you should find one or more symlinks to directories. Look inside each one. The files named temp*_input correspond to the temperature sensors. Cat each one until you see which corresponds to your CPU temperature (they're probably scaled by 1000). 2. Open the script in a text editor. Near the top you'll see a "TWEAKABLE VARIABLES" section. Think of that like a configuration file. Replace the value being assigned to SENSOR with the path to the sysfs file you found in the previous step. If necessary, replace the value being assigned to DIVISOR too. --- ...at this point some people might be wondering why I don't just parse the output of the sensors command. Catting a file and letting the shell divide by 1000 is a lot faster than "sensors | awk '/CPU Temp:/ {print $3}'", the fastest parse I can think of. Maybe I'm being picky, but I wanted to avoid extra CPU use. --- 3. Look at the other values in the "TWEAKABLE VARIABLES" section. Change them if you want. 4. Keep going down to the "TEST FUNCTIONS" section. Look at the functions that start with test_. All the commands in those functions must run on your system or the script will quit in the middle of a run. You'll notice that I use dchroot for the programs that must run in my 32-bit chroot. All the other programs are in my shell's $PATH. Your system will likely differ from mine and some of those commands will not run. You have three options: Option 1: Alter the command to work on your system: remove "dchroot" if you need to, type in an absolute path, etc. Option 2: Alter your system so the command works: configure dchroot, download prime95 and cpuburn-in and put them in your $PATH, etc. Option 3: Remove the test if you're not interested in it or you can't make it run. To do this, don't bother deleting the function -- just disable it by removing its name from the ALL_TESTS variable up in the "TWEAKABLE VARIABLES" section. -Corey -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: GPG burns my notebook!
I have installed gdesklets to monitoring cpu, memory, ecc via desktop, and so I have discovered strange behaviour. Example: launch from root 'cfdisk' too see partition and close it normally. On gdesklets I read CPU working ~99%. Top confirms cfdisk 'burn' my cpu and so 'killall cfdisk'. After a few of seconds, I read again CPU working ~99%. Top show 'top' self use my cpu 99% and 'killall' again. It's same thing with 'gpg' at start of this thread. Have you any idea? I just out of curiosity tried burnK7 on my nearly 2y old A64 3200+ (oldest 2GHz 754 socket version) and after 15 minutes CPU raises from 42 to 43 degrees (using ondemand governor I have 800MHz idle), but system temperature raises from some 38 to 58 degrees (and still slowly raising)... kind of funny, but maybe possible since CPU has quite good active cooling and MB only passive (MSI K8T Neo). BTW, doom3 heats CPU up to 45 degrees and even don't use 100% CPU time (about 60% average), main load gets GPU @ 1600x1200 (some 82 degrees according to `nvidia-settings`) ;o) Mixi

Unfortunately there isn't an amd64 deb of cpuburn, but it works fine in my i386 chroot. This thread inspired me to run a few tests to see what program makes my CPU run the hottest. My somewhat overclocked machine had been running for over a month, even with me playing games in hotter weather than it is now -- and burnK7 crashed my computer. I wrote a script to test several programs and graph the temperatures reached. I thought it might be of general interest so I attached it and the output on my machine. Run the script with no arguments for a usage explanation. It's meant to be tweaked and I wrote it in such a way that it should be easy to do so. Just put the script in an empty directory somewhere first; it makes a lot of intermediate data files when it runs the tests. I won't be around for the next week but I wanted to get that out before this thread sinks into oblivion. -Corey temptests.sh Description: Bourne shell script

Even if they use a desktop chip in a laptop, the manufacture needs to remember the intended use of the laptop. An over heatings laptop is not considered workable in my book, you should be able to use the laptop as a server and still not have it over heat. In other words a laptop cpu should be able to run at 100% all the time and not have any major problems, if your needing an external cooler because its too hot this is another reason to send it back. I would also check the back connectors, such as the serial ports, and usb ports, if they feel hot to the touch, then I would send it back, maybe the cpu heatsink is not properly installed. Just because its a laptop does not mean you need to baby it, its a computer a portable one, it should be able to be used as such, if it can't then something is wrong. On my wifes laptop, it runs RC5-72 24/7, I tell her she can shut it off it she wants, but she keeps telling me that it takes too long to boot. I said thats fine leave it on then, it sometimes goes weeks without being turned off. If I sense something is wrong with it, I will not hesitate to send it back for RMA. GPG burns my notebook!
Hi, this is not a joke:) Reading posts about GPG-errors for last apt version, I have launched: apt-key add keyfile. At start, notebook temperature was for thermal 1: 40 C and thermal 2: 47 C (from 'acpi -V'). Running command above (and so 'gpg' process) my system becomes unstable (auto key pressing etc.), and temperature is jumped to 55 C for 1, and 88 C for 2 in one minute. Top command returned 'gpg' cpu-usage 99%. Is it a debian problem or a notebook strange behavior? I have an acer 1524wlmi. GPG error mirroring the archive
Hi, my mirror of the amd64 archive recently broke becaues of the following errors: gpg: Signature made Thu Jan 20 17:40:22 2005 EST using DSA key ID 2FE487B0 gpg: Can't check signature: public key not found gpg: Signature made Thu Jan 20 17:40:22 2005 EST using DSA key ID 2FE487B0 gpg: Can't check signature: public key not found Failed to download some Package, Sources, Contents or release files! I've gotten around this by using the option --ignore-release-gpg but I'm wondering how to properly get this key. I installed debian-keychain, but am still seeing the error. And sometime soon now (yeah, I've said this before...) I'll open up my mirror for Internet 2 users, who should be able to max out their I2 connections getting from me. -Peter -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
