I have had problem with the mozilla plugin crashing iceweasel just about every

Having installed java from the official debian
repositories (where the plugin is also provided) and
jmol 11 from the jmol web site (and avoided at all
that trick of wajig, into which I badly dropped one
year ago, then uninstalled), I have no trouble.
However, I do not use jmol for the web, just to look
graphicaly at outputs from computational packages.

Great!, but ... what if I really have a previously installed higher
version of java jre?
How can I install ir without uninstall my installed packages?

Does that mean that gnome's browser (I use it) is
unable to deal with? I am trying not to overload my
system, keeping at a minimum the number of packages.
