KDE 3.4 or 3.5 sarge backports for amd64?
Backports.org used to have what looked like a complete 3.4.x backport to sarge for amd64 (although admittedly I never tried it). Now it looks as though they have a partial (and therefore not installable) 3.5.x backport for amd64... Anyone have any tips where to find a complete KDE backport for some recent version of KDE for amd64? Thanks! Dale -- Dale E. Hello everybody, is there any kde 3.4 debian repository available for amd64? I have seen in the web some references to deb http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.0/ ./ but it is not clear to me if it is only for 32bit i386 packages. Bye.

Hi, I tried to install kde3.4 from the debian-amd64 server but there seem to be missing some packets. Hi.My system is trying to upgrade dbus-1 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ apt-cache policy dbus-1 dbus-1: Installed: 0.23.2-3qt1 Candidate: 0.23.4-1 According to the names (and to the fact that 0.23.2-3qt1 was downloaded from the location of the 3.4 debs, and 0.23.4-1 is available in the usual pure64 mirrors) i doubt it's safe to upgrade. I've been running KDE 3.4 at home and at another i386 machines for some days now, and earlier today installed it on my dual amd64 system... amarok was running fine, and found no other problems either sofar... I was pleased to see that these debs also includes the kontact plugin for akregator :) Maybe we should setup a DebianAmd64KDE34 page? With the deb urls, and where we could post problems when we find them? The only problem I did have was how to install them... after adding the apt-get source as given earlier in this thread and updating/etc, I was not able to get things automatically updated... I do have both sarge and sid lines in the apt-get sources, and had a lot of trouble getting it going on the two i386 machines too (with other sources, of course...) I now downloaded all debs with wget on the index HTML page, and then did 'dpkg -i *deb', which mostly worked... applying a 'apt-get -f install' solved all problems, and then another 'dpkg -i *deb' completed the install... Anyway, how did others get KDE3.4 installed with apt-get? Egon

Hi all, I thought someone posted that he had put amd64 (pure64 or gcc3.4?) debs online for KDE 3.4, but cannot find it in the archives, only someone mentioning he was compiling... did I dream this? I did manage to compile _most_ of kde3.4, however kdemultimedia would'nt compile _no how_ for me. I would be interested if you could forward the output of dpkg -l to me, so I can figure out which packages I'm missing? and, of course your binary repository url of course. 8?P My current problem, with my _mostly_ compiled kde3.4, is how to integrate my compiled binaries into the standard debian file system. I may think that unless debian accept the proposal of kept officially the work in the 4 more used arquitectures we all will be living that delays in gnome or kde. I've been using ubuntu Hoary in a laptop some time now and it has gnome 2.10 already and it's really stable, and so there's kubuntu for the kde lovers with kde 3.4 almost full done http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/KubuntuKDEStatus So if you wanna live like a desktop user using debian you might want give it a try, you know there's a amd64 port :), install hoary and then apt-get install kubuntu-desktop :) Juan A.
