KDE 3.4 or 3.5 sarge backports for amd64?

2006-03-24 Thread Dale E. Martin
Backports.org used to have what looked like a complete 3.4.x backport to
sarge for amd64 (although admittedly I never tried it). Now it looks as
though they have a partial (and therefore not installable) 3.5.x backport
for amd64... Anyone have any tips where to find a complete KDE backport
for some recent version of KDE for amd64?

Thanks!

A good guess would be the debian-qt-kde mailing list, but I'm only a
mere user of the binary KDE 3.4 packages for amd64...

I noticed there is also a kde-3.4.2 there, but only with tar balls. Apparently
somebody is doing something.

But I too tryied compiling kde 3.4.2 from (kde) source using debian gcc 4.xx,
however many, if not most, packages end up in error.

Actually, is there a specific mailing list (or irc) where people working on
kde for debian (amd64) meet ?

Any kde 3.4 repository?

2005-08-19 Thread Michelasso
Hello everybody,
is there any kde 3.4 debian repository available for amd64?
I have seen in the web some references to

deb http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.0/ ./

but it is not clear to me if it is only for 32bit i386 packages.

Bye.

Just use these:

deb http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.1/ ./
deb-src http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.1/ ./

everything works great for me :-)

kdebase failed to build (#311958), and there are some (2) packages

This is a temporary location until people.debian.org comes back. It
might go down at any time so do not complain.

deb http://ropecon.fi/~killer/debian/ ./

The server named gluck.debian.org which was hosting the people website
is down due to some RAID problems.

See the annoncement on the debian-devel-announce.
They are trying to save what can be can and reformat the array if I

I didn't see any mention of a mirror somewhere else.

No, the -0pre1 is the Debian part, indicating this:
- the 0 means unofficial packages, as KDE 3.4 will not go into sarge/sid
- the package that will go into sid after the sarge release will start with -1
  so upgrades will go fine
- I'm not sure about the pre1/pre2. It probably means that these are packages
in progress or that the just allow increasing the deb version while keeping
  it start with -0

Count another one. I've been running KDE 3.4 at home and at another i386
machines for some days now, and earlier today installed it on my dual amd64
system... amarok was running fine, and found no other problems either
sofar... I was pleased to see that these debs also includes the kontact
plugin for akregator :)

Maybe we should setup a DebianAmd64KDE34 page? With the deb urls, and where we
could post problems when we find them?

The only problem I did have was how to install them... after adding the
apt-get source as given earlier in this thread and updating/etc, I was not
able to get things automatically updated... I do have both sarge and sid
lines in the apt-get sources, and had a lot of trouble getting it going on
the two i386 machines too (with other sources, of course...)

I now downloaded all debs with wget on the index HTML page, and then did
'dpkg -i *deb', which mostly worked... applying a 'apt-get -f install' solved
all problems, and then another 'dpkg -i *deb' completed the install...

Anyway, how did others get KDE3.4 installed with apt-get?

Egon

gcc (GCC) 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-12)

I'm not familiar with the difference of pure64 and gcc 3.4, just

Hi all,

I thought someone posted that he had put amd64 (pure64 or gcc3.4?) debs online
for KDE 3.4, but cannot find it in the archives, only someone mentioning he
was compiling... did I dream this?

Are such debs online yet?

OK, the packages are being uploaded to the following apt repository.
Please wait a while for all the packages to get there, my upload speed
from home isn't that hot.

deb http://people.debian.org/~killer/amd64 ./

I think I've included everything but in case I've missed something,
just let me know and I'll add it.

That way you get _Debian_ binary packages with a minimum of hassle.
Basically all I did was this:

1. Add pkg-kde.alioth deb-src repository to sources.list
2. apt-get update
3. apt-get source kdelibs kdebase ...
4. apt-get build-dep kdelibs
5. cd kdelibs-3.4.0 ; dpkg-buildpackage -uc -us
6. dpkg -i *.deb
7. Repeat steps 4-6 for all metapackages

You need to fiddle with the build order a bit, though.

But, I've now compiled everything successfully, I'll just transfer the
stuff to people.debian.org and let you know the repository URL when
I'm done.

Hi Kalle.

I commented out those 2 lines, and it still won't compile for me.

I am wondering why you are emphatic about the kde-3.4 sources on alioth to
build with?

I find konstruct to be very efficient..unless I can point konstruct at
alioth .:^)

Anyways, we'll see how you do.

Thanks,

Yeah, there's a bug for the 64-bit machines in the source. I made a
trivial fix for it and I hope that it works (at least it compiles).
Comment out the two typedef's in lines 32 and 34 in
mpeglib/lib/input/cdromAccess.cpp.

You want to take the pkg-kde project's source packages for Debian and
build them (that's what I'm doing). You definitely do NOT want to
start with the original KDE source tarballs.

I did manage to compile _most_ of kde3.4, however kdemultimedia would'nt
compile _no how_ for me.

I would be interested if you could forward the output of dpkg -l to
me, so I can figure out which packages I'm missing?

and, of course your binary repository url of course. 8?P

My current problem, with my _mostly_ compiled kde3.4, is how to integrate my
compiled binaries into the standard debian file system. If anyone knows of a
how-to I would love to study it. This would be of great interest to me.

Thanks,

I may think that unless debian accept the proposal of kept officially
the work in the 4 more used arquitectures we all will be living that
delays in gnome or kde.
I've been using ubuntu Hoary in a laptop some time now and it has gnome
2.10 already and it's really stable, and so there's kubuntu for the kde
lovers with kde 3.4 almost full done
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/KubuntuKDEStatus

So if you wanna live like a desktop user using debian you might want
give it a try, you know there's a amd64 port :), install hoary and then
apt-get install kubuntu-desktop :)

Hi Marco.

You can build them yourself with konstruct, as I have. It looks great too!

Start with:

You can always see how the Debian packages for KDE 3.3.x do it. If the
building system didn't change that much, you might have an easy job in
your hands. You can always get in touch with the Debian maintainers for
the KDE packages and offer to give them a hand.
