I just noticed that CONFIG_MOTORCOMM_PHY isn't "=y", but "=m" in the kernel 
build (probably due to CONFIG_PHYLIB=m).
This likely means that the NIC won't work as it is. I _think_ that if you add 
'motorcomm' to the initramfs, then it should work.
