Re: new debian installer

2002-02-18 Thread David Kimdon

debian-installer isn't a complete project. If you are willing to
put many hours into developing it (or wait many months until it gets
completed by others) then it is a good choice. boot-floppies is
end-of-lifed, though it will probably be with us for the next year at
least. boot-floppies is complete and creating custom CD's will not be
difficult. If you have the time debian-installer would definately like
the attention.

I think it would be nice to have an entry associating
language to a URL.

Or make the entry _("ftp.us.debian.org") a translatable string
to give a somewhat sane-ish result.

new debian installer

2002-02-18 Thread Ionut Georgescu

Hi,

I'd like to build my own Debian install kit (CD, floppies & Co.) and I
like the idea of the new debian installer. How usable is it actually ? I
have given the CVS version a try and I couldn't see the demo. The build
however went smooth. Should I stay with boot-floppies ?

Regards,
Ionut

I'd say: far to late for woody.

And moreover, we should have translated description in dpkg in the first
place, before spreading them around the place. We do need an unified
handeling of them. Dpkg is the place this change should take place.
Not (yet) BF.

Of course, I'd love to have this feature in BF, but I don't see any
possibility in the time frame left.

Bug#134569: bf2.4: invalid compressed format (err=2), system halted

2002-02-18 Thread Tom Wzietek

package: boot-floppies
version: 3.0.19
severity: serious

performing a network install from a DOS partition on a laptop
(i686/550MHz/96MB/5GB/cdrom/no SCSI/no floppy) invoked by:

loadlin linux root=/dev/ram initrd=root.bin disksize=1.44 flavor=bf2.4

result:

##
Uncompressing Linux...

invalid compressed format (err=2)

 -- System halted
##

all other 3.0.19 flavors work fine (tested as far as bootup)
re-downloaded and doublechecked from different sources to no avail

*** the same bug was reported in #123203 but was for a different version
of the package (potato) and occured on a much older system.

thanks

The problem is not the timeout is too long. It seems not working at all.
I should get at it within days -- it's currently at the third place on my
