Just a heads up that I checked in a bunch of stuff to break cdebconf
today. I will be working on fixing things up gradually over the week,
but people are welcome to help :-)

if you need a working cdebconf, use a cvs checkout date of yesterday or
so.

Woody install problem

2002-07-01 Thread Peter Kozar

Hello,

after couple of recent linux installs i had to face a
minor problem with the installation procedure.
Using the woody disks to install a system, I used ftp
download for base packages.
When it is done it provides the choice of using
tasksel, dselect or neither of them.
Unfortunately with tasksel and dselect it is
impossible to finish the installation properly in the
default case because apt is configured to use the
stable link on the servers which points to the
potato distribution.
Of course it results problems unsolvable dependencies
since installing the selected packages in some cases
would require to remove the installed base system.

I would not consider it as a big problem since the
manual workaround is quite easy, but it could be quite
annoying for newbies.

Is it a problem simply with the apt config in the
install package, or just the link has been changed on
the servers too early before woody actually would hit
the stable state ?

Yours sincerely,

 Peter Kozar

Good Day

2002-07-01 Thread Mr.Muyiwa Ige

Dear Sir, First I must solicit your strictest confidence in this transaction. This is
by its nature being a transaction, which needs maximum secrecy. I am Mr Ademola Muyiwa
Ige, the eldest son of Late Chief Bola Ige, who was the Attorney - General of the
Federation and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was
assassinated on the 23rd of December 2001 in his hometown Ibadan - Oyo state. We have
every reason to believe that his political opponents killed him as a result of his
ambition to run again for the 2003 presidential election in my country that he
contested on the platform of ALLIANCE FOR DEMOCRACY {A.D} and lost to the present head
of state Gen Olusegun Obasanjo {Rtd}. At the moment, the Government has commenced
investigation into his death although we {Family} do not have confidence in what they
may come out as a result of the investigation. Before his death, he kept 4 boxes which
contained the sum of $34million united stated dollars (US$34m) in my possession of the
permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice Dr Aitku Idris and he instructed him to
deposit it in a security company. We had wanted to use this money to run for his
presidential election , while Dr.Atiku Idris had wanted to contest for senatorial
election in the year 2003,unfortunately my father could not make it. Now that my
father has been murdered, Dr.Atiku has vowed to have nothing to do with politics after
the shock of my fathers death, and called a meeting between me and my mother Justice
Atunike Ige where he handed the money back to us. During my recent meeting with my
mother, we agreed to channel money into investment abroad and that I should look for a
reliable foreign partner who would help me transfer the money abroad. This is why I am
seeking and contacting you, if you succeed in helping me transfer this money outand
putting it into investment, 25% of the money would be given to you,5% would be used
for unforeseen expenses, the remaining 70% would be for us down here ,while the money
would be invested in any good business in your country. I want to assure you that this
transaction is 100% risk free both now and in future as all necessary arrangement has
been made for a hitch free transfer. Please try and get back to me as soon as you
receive my mail. I pray to hear from you soonest. Warmest regards, Ademola Muyiwa Ige.

[patch] utilities/dbootstrap/po/Makefile gawk bug

2002-07-01 Thread Marc . Herbert

Let's play a boot-floopies developer game:

1) remove gawk from your machine
  (try something like:
 apt-get remove gawk
  )

2) forget what you have done in step 1). Please do.

3) cd into a cleaned boot-floppies directory

4) type:
make uni-docs

5) ...and finally lose a few hours like me trying to understand the SGML
errors (?) you will get. Argh.

With the attached patch below, I would have spent only 2 seconds.

Note: I have also replaced gawk by awk in the same patch, since I did
not find anything needing the full gawk in the very short genc.awk code used
(some awk expert please check this). Moreover, this seems to be the only
place in this boot-floopies package where gawk is (was?) used.

Note: shouldn't some debian dependancy mechanism automagically install gawk
when doing apt-get source boot-floopies ?

Cheers,

Marc.

PS: and now I finally can work on this initrd debian install
documentation I want to write.

The .iso is an image file which contains an entire filesystem for the CD; it
should not be placed on a CD like an ordinary file, but instead used as the
data track.

The problem[1] lies in the base-config package. It will work
once woody is released, but will be broken until then.

David or someone can look at this patch. But to check the build-depends for
any Debian package, use

dpkg-checkbuilddeps debian/control

Also for boot-floppies, use make check to see if you're ready to build,
and make lint-docs in the documetation directory to see if your SGML is OK.
