Bug#185111:
Package: boot-floppies Version: unknown I am using PXE boot, dists/woody/main/disks-i386/3.0.23-2002-05-21/bf2.4/tftpboot.img, to install to an Acerpower 6100 (Pentium II). It does not support my network card: 00:10.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corp. 82557 [Ethernet Pro 100] (rev 05) Subsystem: IBM 82558B Ethernet Pro 10/100 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 9 Memory at 8210 (32-bit, prefetchable) I/O ports at 8000 Memory at 8020 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) Expansion ROM at 8030 [disabled] Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 1 and required me to use a CD or floppy to supply the driver. I inserted debian-30r1-i386-binary-1.iso, and the installer gave me a selection of one set of modules from which to choose. I was unable to read the full name of the file it offered; had it located all the modules on the CD I would have been unable to select the correct one. The one it chose contained only 2.2 modules, of no use to my 2.4 kernel. I suggest that a) b-f be corrected so as to display the full name of the modules it offers, if not the full path/name, then at least the distinguishing part(s). b) b-f be correct so as to not offer any modules incompatible with the running kernel. There is a related problem, so I won't file a separate report. I eventually got my network driver in place as a foreign module, and proceded to install from the default http server. On rebooting, I find that it's installed a 2.2.20 kernel, without offering me a choice, even though I chose to use a 2.4 kernel for installation. There are many machines that the 2.2 kernel simply would not boot, including one here that has a hotrod 66 card in it: 00:0c.0 Unknown mass storage controller: Triones Technologies, Inc. Bug#185013: kbd-chooser: segfaults with norwegian language and DEBCONF_PRIORITY=high
Package: kbd-chooser Version: 0.015 Severity: important The kbd-chooser package crashes when I run with DEBCONF_PRIORITY=high and DEBIAN_FRONTEND=text. First I pick Norwegian Bokmaal as the language, abort a package to get to the main menu, and then I pick "Detect a keyboard and select layout.". This is the output: kbd-chooser's postinst exited with status 256 There is no information in /var/log/messages about what happened before it crashed. When I run with DEBCONF_PRIORITY=medium, there is no crash, but there is no default keyboard layout selected either. Earlier, no-latin1 was selected as the default keyboard when I used Norwegian Bokmaal. I use the CD image available as ftp://ftp.skolelinux.no/debian-cd/woody-i386-1.raw> to test this.
