I think, and i remember my engagement on the social contract, how i would put freee software and our users as my top priorities. The way things currently stand hurts our users, and measuring and comparing things, i trully believe that you and everyone other can assuredly support a few mails, for the best of our users. Furthermore, if more people had steped in so many month ago instead of ignoring this, and if the DPL had been a better mediator, this would have been fixed at the latest in early june, and the project would have spared a lot of disagrement, and debian would be much better off for it (well, people would probably have spent more time flaming on assorted other stuff, but for me at least i would have done more debian work). > Do you think you raise other developers' opinions of you by continuing > to raise these old issues? Right now, I would pretty much reject an > offer from you to help me -- with anything -- immediately, on the > grounds that working with you is too much effort to benefit me. Is it too much effort ? For a few mails you can easily ignore if you wanted ? Really, i think there is something really really sick in debian, when writing mails can be considered as the ultimate offense. Please think about it. > You aren't accomplishing anything for Debian with this thread. You > probably know that this thread isn't going to change people's minds Well, it will not be my fault, i have written those 2 open letters in the most reasonable way i could think of, i have written the wiki page on suggestions given to me on the irc channels, andin the most positive way i could think of. Yes, i expect people to change their minds on that, i think that is only fair, and i have high hopes on the fairness of the debian developpers. > now. You need to accept that life is the way it is, that life is not > fair, and that this is the way things are. It's not the first time > someone has been excluded from a free software project, and it's not > the last. Well, yes, but d-i is not just any project, d-i is a debian sub-project, and part of debian. So, i question the right of the d-i leadership, or rather frans, to excude me. I do good work, i have played by the rules, i have the best interest of our users and debian in mind. Keeping me excluded is *NOT* for the best of debian, and since the DPL totally failed to mediate, and left us in this mess, and is silent despite my repeated calls, what other issue is left to me ? You know, if the DPL doesn't step in, i am seriously thinking that i will go as far as doing an official recall of him, not only because of this, but because he has mostly been lying to us. > As Ted T'so pointed out in another thread, people have gotten rich off > his work and he hasn't seen much from it. This is a "feature" of the way modern kernels detect devices and not something we can influence in the installer. Basically the kernel probes all hardware in parallel and this can lead to different results on different boots. As your installation was successful, I'm closing your report. The messages you show here are insufficient to diagnose this. You'll need to look back to check: - is the driver needed for your disk controller being loaded - is the disk recognized - as what is it recognized - are the partitions seen Are you dropped into a debug shell when the failure occurs? If you are, check if the modules needed are loaded (cat /proc/modules), check if the disk devices are listed in /dev/. > I should mention that this was previously a PV in an LVM setup. I'd > already removed the partition from the VG and formatted it (I thought) > as ext3 but the d-i read it as type LVM; so I formatted it again as > ext3 during the install. Hmm. Did you also remove the LVM metadata from it? That could have something to do with it, though I doubt it. Any messages in the scrollback on the console related to LVM? If you need to fix anything (like manually include a module in the initrd), use the installer's rescue mode. Cheers, FJP -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". We'll need all the information that you can see on the screen when it fails to help find the cause. Can you still scroll upwards after the segfault (using shift-PgUp)? If so, the lines immediately before the segfault (at least 5 or so) and the lines of the segfault itself would be interesting to see. > <6> Journalled Block device driver loaded > pivot_root: No such file or directory > /sbin/init: 432: cannot open dev/console: No such file > Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init! Apparently fixed via the libata upgrade > available in 2.6.18.x That means that this will be automatically fixed when the installer switches to the 2.6.18 kernel which we expect to do in a couple of weeks time. It would be great if you could test again after we have done so. I expect there will be a call for testing on the debian-devel-announce list and the debian-boot list after we have made the switch. Closing this report as this is not really an installer issue, but the result of progress in kernel support for your hardware. Cheers, FJP --- End Message ---

Nice job of tracing that! The installer is not really set up to work with kernels that are configured totally different from the standard Debian kernels. If you really have a totally different kernel, you may run into other issues as well later on in the installation. > Will fill a bug because it almost prevent to easilly upgrade to a > newer/better configured kernel. Note that "better configured" is a subjective opinion. For the installer, it is much better (or at least safer) to start with the configuration the Debian kernel uses. How you configure the kernel for your installed system is of course completely up to you. This particular issue is fairly easily avoided, so I have no problem with fixing it. Please file your bug report against the package rootskel-gtk. Cheers, FJP pgppcI02992sK.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#396463: Installation Report
Comment: I use the mouse left handed. Is it possible to change the mouse buttons order someway before installation begins? It seems that directfb supports setting this in /etc/directfbrc. From the manpage: [no-]lefty Swaps left and right mouse buttons. Useful for left-handers. I guess we could add a boot parameter for this. Could you confirm if this actually works by following the following this procedure: - boot the installer with 'installgui BOOT_DEBUG=3' - at the first debug shell: - 'nano /etc/directfbrc' - add a new line containing "lefty" (without the quotes) - type exit twice to exit debug shells Works perfectly. I sugest this could be a boot parameter. I'm not exactly a left-handed person but my right-hand tendons argue for this after 15 years clicking a mouse. Left-handed users all around the world too ;) Best regards Flavio -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#396332: installation-report: Desktop environment option in tasksel should let user know it is gnome.
I don't understand what is lost by making this change. If this is a known issue, which bug is it a duplicate of? The fact that this is a FAQ for tasksel should tell us something. I can appreciate the view that "average users" don't care about the name of the desktop, but nothing is lost by attaching gnome in parenthesis as suggested. It would still clear that they are going to install a desktop environment. "Average users" don't lose anything, and any user who is at all further advanced than "average" would be benefited. This is my only complaint on this great project. Cheers, Lex. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Frans, with all your lecturing to check a bit before commenting, i would have hoped you would do so yourself. The part of the kernel patched by this patch is totally unused in debian, it is moved into mkvmlinuz, but even then, it is not used in debian-installer, since the miboot images build code is not using mkvmlinuz since a year or so. I even commented to this effect in a direct followup to the mail benh wrote with the patch : http://lists.debian.org/debian-powerpc/2006/09/msg00338.html So you really have no excuse for doing such sloppy work, and i expect you to be more humble when you comment about similar error i may make in the future. From the manpage: [no-]lefty Swaps left and right mouse buttons. Useful for left-handers. I guess we could add a boot parameter for this. Could you confirm if this actually works by following the following this procedure: - boot the installer with 'installgui BOOT_DEBUG=3' - at the first debug shell: - 'nano /etc/directfbrc' - add a new line containing "lefty" (without the quotes) - type exit twice to exit debug shells Cheers, FJP pgpmlVTOOVzhy.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#396458: powerpc d-i miboot floppy doesn't boot
Package:kernel-image-2.6.17-2-powerpc-miboot-di Version:1.22 Hi, tried booting the powerpc debian installer floppy disk for etch/sid but it just got spat out. I used: dd if=boot.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=1024; sync to put the image on disk and booted with the option key pressed, but didn't get any debug. The boot.img from etch installer beta3 with kernel-image-2.6.16-2-powerpc-miboot-di worked, however the net-drivers.img was too big and I had to break up the install at that point While investigating that problem Benjamin Herrenschmidt sent this interesting mail with a patch, which may solve the problem: http://lists.debian.org/debian-powerpc/2006/09/msg00337.html I have a powerpc power macintosh 6500/225. Unfortunately, i5/OS refused to recognize neither the yaird image nor the kernel itself as a valid IPL source. However, turning the partition on via the HMC and booting into SMS worked. Note that the the NWS has still to be varied on via WRKCFGSTS *NWS. Else, virtual I/O devices (and most notably NWSSTG) are missing. After booting into SMS, I was able to choose the virtual CD-ROM drive as IPL source. Booting and installing was straightforward (in case, one chose the "expert64" or "install64" yaboot entry - i5 refuses to boot from 32 bit kernels and crashes into ofdbg displaying a nice register dump). Graphics were a bit garbled[1] on the console (via telnet 2301), but d-i was usable. D-i allowed me to make my root partition managed by LVM, what I chose on my first try. However, yaboot was unable to read its config from this partition, so I reinstalled (it was friday afternoon anyway) it without LVM on my /. yaboot was installed to a PReP partition (nothing notably until then) and the system rebooted. Unfortunately, I didn't start installation in expert mode, so I didn't notice that d-i only installed a 32 bit kernel. As expected, yaboot booted right into the open firmware debugger. After re-restarting the installation in expert mode, I hoped to find a 64 bit kernel in the installer's kernel selection list. However, only 32 bit kernels where listed, so I had to install a 64 bit version via a chroot environment in the command line. After rebooting, yaboot loaded the Elf64 kernel and all services started. However, a getty did not start on /dev/console (what made me a bit nervous first). I don't know if this is considered a bug or not... Anyway - nice job! I didn't expect the installation to go on that smoothly ;-) Footnotes = 1: http://kitt.yath.de/~yath/2006-10-31-d-i-1.png -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFFR3oavBVic1oTsEgRAq6UAJ9m8Tb8J7NSDJUqk2/fIuIGybYp9QCfe0a4 bwsmyTFGQ3ocvbbb8HvJu+M= =6CHk -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". One more thing: please evaluate if it's better having the active by default radio button focused, so that the user has to move up/down with the arrows and then press enter, or if it's better having the focus on the inactive button. I assigned focus to the inactive radio button, so that i can simply press spacebar with the thumb and hit enter with the middle finger without using the arrow keys, but i'm not sure this is not confusing. Hello Daniel, I am glad you took this to the debian-boot mailing list as Sven Luther, who currently is not even a member of the Debian Installer team, filed this request without discussing it on the debian-boot list first. As such, this is an "unauthorized" request. On Tuesday 31 October 2006 20:44, Joey Hess wrote: > Daniel Jacobowitz wrote: > > If they did that, you could just wget a full GDB binary. Please take this conclusion from Joey Hess as the final statement on this request. It would have limited benefits, but not enough to warrant the creation and the maintenance of the udeb. Re: miboot net-install floppies too big
Hi, well the good news is that somebody shrank the net-drivers.img, and it builds properly too, see: people.debian.org/~wouter/d-i/powerpc-miboot/2006-10-30/build_powerpc_floppy_net-drivers.log Don't know who did it or how, but thank you. Unfortunately the modules in the floppy are for linux-image-2.6.17-2-powerpc-miboot-di, which, here it comes, won't boot. Nothing, just gets spat out. Not even a debug message. Oh well, at least this problem is straight forward. I guess I'll fill out a bug report. Rob _ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! You are supposed to make sure your environment is "clean" and working when using preseeding. When an error occurs during a preseeded install, the only method to "recover" that is guaranteed to work is: abort the install, fix the error and retry. However, in this case I guess we could "reset" the questions in case of an error so that they will be asked and current values can be changed. This is a low priority issue though. So if you want to debug something before the full libc is available, you're SOL. However, d-i also already offers a way to include a strace, gdb, or whatever you want onto the boot image, without a udeb, and including any dependant symbols and other libraries: # This variable can be used to copy in additional files from the system # that is doing the build. Useful if you need to include strace, or gdb, # etc. #EXTRAFILES = /usr/bin/strace > If someone more familiar with d-i than I am can confirm that the udeb > will be useful, I can try to get GDB to build one, but it seems like > a very strange package to have a udeb. Well, on various suggestions, i have written the following text : http://wiki.debian.org/SvenLutherAndDI Which i will try to improve and complete, accordying to remarks and questions people may ask me about this. For those awaiting evil gossip, you will be strongly disapointed though, since i have decided to not go and add links of those bashings and other not-nice things frans has said about me, but instead, i have written what i believe is a reasonable explanation of why my commit should be re-activated, including information on all the bugs and patches i commited accordying to the rules sets up by the DPL during the mediation, which as you will see ammount to quite a lot, and the sad fact that there was no-one able to take an active d-i powerpc porter lead role, even after all these months. As a conclusion, i believe that the above page clearly shows why my d-i svn commit access should be restored, and that this sad dispute should be forgotten, as i hope we are all mature enough to be able to set aside past differences, and work together for the bettering of debian (and no, the current climate of flamewars and GRs-for-every-flightly-excuse does not contribute to that). So, again, i ask that this issue is but to a stop, that my svn commit access to the d-i repository is restored, that frans stops his provocations against me, and that we go back to coding hapily ever after. I really don't see how reduction could work if it has to take into account all .udebs which can possibly or not be loaded into d-i. I also have not noticed the d-i build process loading not-in-the-ramdisk .udebs, but i have missed them. Also, i don't see how such a process could survive for example a package which was added after the build of the image, or modified or whatever. What did you do with strace ? Create a .udeb out of it and include this one ? or just load in the binary ? Or did you include the strace.udeb into the ramdisk image ? > If someone more familiar with d-i than I am can confirm that the udeb > will be useful, I can try to get GDB to build one, but it seems like > a very strange package to have a udeb. Well, gdb and strace would be two great packages to have as .udeb. Also, .udebs can be useful even outside of d-i, at least those not having any menu item thingy, like libraries, and utility packages (like ssh or parted or whatever for example). AFAIK, this never happens. The reduction is done mainly for the thing not to be too big in the memory while running. > In any case if you have a better idea on how to do this, maybe having a > statically built gdb, it would be welcome too. A statically built gdb is he way to go, IMHO. If you'd want a udeb for gdb, then the library reduction should take into account its dependencies (symbols). This would mean: - - either you make a custom image which uses mklibs-copy (no reduction) and you can use a regular binary or a gdb udeb which contains just the gdb binary (dynamically linked) - - build a custom image with gdb's needed symbols not stripped - but this means that gdb could not be used for regulaly built images. - -- Regards, EddyP = "Imagination is more important than knowledge" A.Einstein -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.5 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFFR2c5Y8Chqv3NRNoRAhv0AJ9lmihF3fyS3OHr38zd4Hw7qeyPZwCg1l2q EaEljSty/gxAEMg7QTz7xFw= =Lowy -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Mmm, you mean the mklibs'ed library in the standard image, i hadn't thought of that. My idea was not to include it by default, but to be able to load it in the ramdisk, if needed, so as a .udeb in the archive, but *NOT* as part of the d-i image. So, i am not entirely sure how d-i handles the case at hand here, where libraries are part of the actual image, but symbols are removed during reduction, because they are not needed by the .udebs in the image, but they are needed by .udebs loaded later on. My impression is that d-i loads the full libraries later on, or something such. In any case if you have a better idea on how to do this, maybe having a statically built gdb, it would be welcome too. > Hoping for feedback. Hope this helps. Bug#395052: Please provide the GTK frontend with a better handler for BOOLEAN questions
Hi Here is a cleaner patch for this bug: don't feel impressed/scared by the number of changed lines, it's mostly due to re-indentation of code after removing a couple of if()s. This patch was tested by me during the whole past week and worked well. Most important, this handler no longer erroneously updates the question database like the current one does when the user checks/unchecks the checkbox. cheers Attilio Index: gtk.c === --- gtk.c (revisione 42389) +++ gtk.c (copia locale) @@ -374,16 +374,6 @@ gtk_main_quit(); } -void check_toggled_callback (GtkWidget *toggle, gpointer data) -{ -struct question *q = (struct question*)data; -gboolean value; - -/* INFO(INFO_DEBUG, "GTK_DI - check_toggled_callback() called"); */ -value = gtk_toggle_button_get_active (GTK_TOGGLE_BUTTON(toggle)); -bool_setter (toggle, q); -} - void boolean_single_callback(GtkWidget *button, struct frontend_question_data* data ) { struct frontend *obj = data->obj; @@ -612,23 +602,21 @@ gtk_widget_modify_base(GTK_WIDGET(ext_description_view), GTK_STATE_NORMAL, bg_color); } -/* here is created the question's description, unless question is BOOLEAN */ -if( strcmp(q->template->type, "boolean") != 0 ) { -description_view = gtk_text_view_new (); -description_buffer = gtk_text_view_get_buffer (GTK_TEXT_VIEW (description_view)); -gtk_text_buffer_set_text (description_buffer, q_get_description(q), -1); -gtk_text_view_set_editable (GTK_TEXT_VIEW(description_view), FALSE); -gtk_text_view_set_cursor_visible (GTK_TEXT_VIEW(description_view), FALSE); -gtk_text_view_set_wrap_mode (GTK_TEXT_VIEW(description_view), GTK_WRAP_WORD); -gtk_text_view_set_left_margin (GTK_TEXT_VIEW(description_view), 4); -gtk_text_view_set_right_margin (GTK_TEXT_VIEW(description_view), 4); -gtk_text_buffer_create_tag (description_buffer, "italic", "style", PANGO_STYLE_ITALIC, NULL); -g_object_set_data (G_OBJECT (description_view), "tag", "italic"); -gtk_text_buffer_get_start_iter (description_buffer, &start); -gtk_text_buffer_get_end_iter (description_buffer, &end); -gtk_text_buffer_apply_tag_by_name (description_buffer, "italic", &start, &end); -gtk_widget_modify_base(GTK_WIDGET(description_view), GTK_STATE_NORMAL, bg_color); -} +/* here is created the question's description */ +description_view = gtk_text_view_new (); +description_buffer = gtk_text_view_get_buffer (GTK_TEXT_VIEW (description_view)); +gtk_text_buffer_set_text (description_buffer, q_get_description(q), -1); +gtk_text_view_set_editable (GTK_TEXT_VIEW(description_view), FALSE); +gtk_text_view_set_cursor_visible (GTK_TEXT_VIEW(description_view), FALSE); +gtk_text_view_set_wrap_mode (GTK_TEXT_VIEW(description_view), GTK_WRAP_WORD); +gtk_text_view_set_left_margin (GTK_TEXT_VIEW(description_view), 4); +gtk_text_view_set_right_margin (GTK_TEXT_VIEW(description_view), 4); +gtk_text_buffer_create_tag (description_buffer, "italic", "style", PANGO_STYLE_ITALIC, NULL); +g_object_set_data (G_OBJECT (description_view), "tag", "italic"); +gtk_text_buffer_get_start_iter (description_buffer, &start); +gtk_text_buffer_get_end_iter (description_buffer, &end); +gtk_text_buffer_apply_tag_by_name (description_buffer, "italic", &start, &end); +gtk_widget_modify_base(GTK_WIDGET(description_view), GTK_STATE_NORMAL, bg_color); gtk_container_set_focus_chain(GTK_CONTAINER(description_box), NULL); @@ -642,8 +630,7 @@ { if (strlen (q_get_extended_description(q)) > 0) gtk_box_pack_start(GTK_BOX (description_box), ext_description_view, FALSE, FALSE, 2); -if( strcmp(q->template->type, "boolean") != 0 ) -gtk_box_pack_start(GTK_BOX (description_box), description_view, FALSE, FALSE, 3); +gtk_box_pack_start(GTK_BOX (description_box), description_view, FALSE, FALSE, 3); } if ( strcmp(q->template->type,"note") == 0 ) @@ -665,7 +652,7 @@ static int gtkhandler_boolean(struct frontend *obj, struct question *q, GtkWidget *qbox) { -GtkWidget *description_box, *check, *hpadbox, *vpadbox; +GtkWidget *description_box, *radio_false, *radio_true, *hpadbox, *vpadbox; struct frontend_question_data *data; const char *defval = question_getvalue(q, ""); @@ -675,30 +662,38 @@ data->obj = obj; data->q = q; -check = gtk_check_button_new_with_label(q_get_description(q)); -if (strcmp(defval, "true") == 0) -gtk_toggle_button_set_active(GTK_TOGGLE_BUTTON(check), TRUE); -else -gtk_toggle_button_set_active(GTK_TOGGLE_BUTTON(check), FALSE); + radio_false = gtk_radio_button_new_with_label (NULL, question_get_text(obj, "debconf/no", "No")); + radio_true = gtk_radio_button_new_with_label_from_widget (GTK_RADIO_BUTTON (radio_fals
Bug#396071: segfaults when attempting to take a screenshot while wget is running

Inmediately after that, you see [2], and after a console switch, the d-i logs [3]. Known issue and the reason why the screenshot button is disabled when a progress bar is running. Apparently we are disabling the screenshot button too late here. Reassigning to cdebconf-gtk-udeb as that is what causes the crash, and it would be good to investigate the actual cause of the crash and seeing if we can solve that. Disabling the button was only a workaround. Note that in the mean time we may need to fix this in choose-mirror after all by displaying a progress bar at this point. Accessing the GdkWindow by a thread while the window is being updated by another thread in the gtk_main_loop() causes crashes, and this is the reason why i made the screenshot button disappear during a progress_xxx() call, in fact past experiments aimed at gaining exclusive access to the gdkwidow led to deadlocks between threads. Robert, did you press the button before the progressbar was displayed or were you able to press it while the progressbar was running? When I pressed it no progress bar was being displayed. I don't know if one was going to show up eventualy, but it was taking too much time and in fact the system appeared to be hang because of this. I've been able to reproduce the crash as Robert described it. The problem is that i forgot to disable the screenshot button when exiting from a frontend_go(), like i did for the "next" and "back" ones. When the user clicks "back" or "next", the GTK application exits the gtk's main loop and there the callback function associated to the screenshot button, which is still active, causes the crash as expected. This is also the reason why i disabled the screenshot button while a progessbar is being updated: the callback would have arrived between two progress_xxx() calls, outside gtk main loop. The attached patch fixes this bug: the screenshot button is disabled after the user exits from a questions, and a bit earlier than before to prevent possible nasty timing issues. cheers attilio Index: gtk.c === --- gtk.c (revisione 42389) +++ gtk.c (copia locale) @@ -1661,6 +1661,10 @@ gdk_threads_enter(); +gtk_widget_set_sensitive (data->button_prev, FALSE); +gtk_widget_set_sensitive (data->button_next, FALSE); +gtk_widget_set_sensitive (data->button_screenshot, FALSE); + if (data->button_val == DC_OK) { call_setters(obj); @@ -1679,9 +1683,6 @@ else gtk_widget_destroy(questionbox_scroll); -gtk_widget_set_sensitive (data->button_prev, FALSE); -gtk_widget_set_sensitive (data->button_next, FALSE); - gdk_threads_leave(); if (data->button_val == DC_OK)
Open letter to the debian-installer team, do we really need to drag this petty conflict so much longer ?
Hi Debian-installer team members. As you all know, there is a petty dispute going on between me and frans (and maybe a few silent others), and this issue has been open since over 6 months now, and there seems to be no end in sight. Some (like Alphix), have said they feel not concerned by this, while frans and a few others insist it is not a personal issue, i don't really know what to think about it, but my own impression is that the only thing really at issue at this point, and so long after the events, are frans's pride, and my frustration at being unable to properly and efficiently working on debian-installer and fixing bugs nobody else seems to be caring about. Anyway, the fact that we are still having this issue months after the facts, and despite me working constructively and within the constraints imposed to me by the DPL mediation, just shows that the current situation is broken, and that there is no hope of it ever getting solved, and that the original mediation proposal was flawed, as i warned about so many months back. As long as Frans is at the same time judge and party to the dispute, and given the fact that he seems unable to admit his own errors in this mess, there will never be a problem, and Frans will continue to constantly provoke me, and i will from time to time be unable to resist responding to said provocations. So, do we really want this to be dragged on forever ? I don't think so, i believe everyone, including me, is sick to death about this. I thus make the following proposal : 1) someone neutral or maybe a neutral committee or whatever, is the one in charge of judging me, and does so honestly and publicly. 2) frans stops immediately his provocations against me. 3) at some predefined time, those judging the issue, will do so. This needs to be some finite and clearly stated time, though. My personal opinion in this is that 6 months would have been well enough, if not for the fact that frans is both the judge on this, and has been provoking me voluntarily during this whole time. 4) if frans behaves badly, then those judging it should not be afraid to say so, and frans should accept the reprimand for it. 5) nobody gets offended when technical proposals are discussed, even if those proposals are not within the official dogma. We are all sick of this, i have been trying to be positive and constructive since months now, but there is really no hope of it ever going better, so let's all remember what we promised in the social contract, that we would put free software and our users as our priority, and set aside those personal petty disputes, so we can all again concentrate on doing the best technical work we can. Bug#396340: choose-mirror doesn't allow to use a d-i only mirror for .udebs.
Package: choose-mirror Severity: normal I have a local mirror of the .udeb debian-installer repo, and want to use this one for d-i testing, and another mirror for the full debian archive. I thought i would set the mirror to my local .udeb archive, and then later change it in expert mode to the debian archive, to get all the .debs. choose-mirror did not let me do this though, and gave me an error message saying that my mirror doesn't support my architecture, and the log showed it checked for the main .deb archive, not the .udeb one. This probably Sorry about that. I am sure I resolved any conflicts, before committing, but anyway... > You should work outside your SVN checkout tree. Put your bg.po file in > a work directory. This is perhaps OK in a string freeze period, but normally, I'd like to receive the updates, not overwrite them. Taking special care of conflict resolution, this should be no problem any more. Or, should I simply overwrite XX.po as you suggest and later merge any new strings from template.pot? I thought the point of the synchronizing scripts was exactly to spare the manual merge. > Also, I found out that even when correcting these conflicts, the bg.po > file has 83 fuzzy strings. Is that intended? I am working on these. You should have found Thanks. > this error by running: > > msgfmt -o /dev/null -c --statistics bg.po > > before committing it. Please always check your PO files this way > before committing them.
