Gordon, can you also check which with Krzysztof's driver? I bet this
 one uses a different name.

The name is different with Krzysztof's driver:

Bug#463632: console-setup: init.d scripts reported as obsolete by dpkg

2008-02-01 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Package: console-setup
Version: 1.21
Severity: important

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Running the following command...

dpkg-query -W -f='${Conffiles}\n' | grep obsolete

...reported this:

 /etc/init.d/console-setup eb5c5e25713d4ac6ea238351425d8d2f obsolete
 /etc/init.d/keyboard-setup 92c4fcfd66c3957081a7afb9122e2f08 obsolete

I recall that, at some point, the init scripts stopped shipping with
the package, which completely broke operation. Perhaps the above is a
leftover from whatever change had broken this?

Bug#463634: debian-installer: please mention how to report bugs in the installer

2008-02-01 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Package: debian-installer
Version: 20070308etch1
Severity: wishlist

It would be nice if the installer would tell the user how he/she can
report bugs about the installer. It is not very obvious for a newbie
to look for a package named debian-installer (even thought it has an
intuitive name). Also, the installer should mention the version number
20070308etch1 somewhere since otherwise users will think that
4.0r2 would be the version they are using.

Even more complex wish would be to include bug reporting functionality
in the installer itself and may be even provide real-time support via
IRC? ;-)

Bug#256177: please consider at least adding usb-storage to netboot image

2008-02-01 Thread Timo Lindfors
Even if you don't add integrated support for loading drivers from usb
could you at least consider adding usb-storage module to the netboot
image? It seems to have a floppy module so clearly it is not limited
to only modules that are minimally needed for network boot.

Bug#463635: debian-installer: opening subtree with [ is counter-intuitive and should be at least documented

2008-02-01 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Package: debian-installer
Version: 20070308etch1
Severity: wishlist

If I choose English as the installer language and then specify that my
location is Other I get a menu that has subtrees. It seems that I
can expand substrees by hitting [ -- this is relatively
counter-intuitive and should be at least documented for the user in
the screen. If I hit enter or space the menu is just redrawn. However,
I can expand the subtree if I use mouse and click the arrowhead. If I
double-click the text the the menu is again just redrawn.

The preferred way to report issues is to file an installation report, as is
explained in the Installation Guide and mentioned in several places on the
Debian website.

The quick summary:
$ reportbug installation-reports

Other users don't seem to have much trouble finding that information and we
certainly don't want to add a dialog during the installation just for that
information.

Even more complex wish would be to include bug reporting functionality
in the installer itself and may be even provide real-time support via
 IRC? ;-)

I doubt we will ever implement that as we cannot really be sure the report
would be submitted correctly at any point in the installation.

As we do not consider this to be an issue, I'm closing your report. Thank
you for submitting it.

Cheers,
FJP

You can also expand/collapse the subtrees by using + and -. This is
documented in the Installation Guide.
We are limited in the keyboard shortcuts we can offer to the options offered
by the GTK libraries.

If you choose to use the graphical installer, using the mouse is IMO the
most intuitive option. Any keyboard shortcuts are additional.

As we do not consider this to be an issue I'm closing your bug report.

linux-2.6 has been built in all architectures and
linux-modules-extra-2.6 has been fastly processed (thanks
ftpmasters) and then we could manage to get a massbuild done in few
days (+- 5 of febuary or even before). I've started to check the
new modules and prepare the patches for kernel-wedge for it and
hope to get it ready for tomorrow or so.

It's far to early to switch d-i to 2.6.24, especially since it drops
support for most of /proc/acpi, including the parts used by
laptop-detect.
