Both things are handled separately, and both of them might need to be adjusted. But this is not the right place for that either. grub-install determines partitions with: GRUB_LEGACY_0_BASED_PARTITIONS=1 grub-probe --device-map=${device_map} -t drive -d "$1" and update-grub determines partitions with: GRUB_LEGACY_0_BASED_PARTITIONS=1 grub-probe --device-map=${device_map} -t drive -d "$1" 2> /dev/null || { In both cases, it's grub-probe you want to fix. There are other code paths, but they're not essential, and we're not currently supporting them. Note: grub-probe uses a generic heuristic that works for most device paths, it's possible that no change is needed there. -- Robert Millan The DRM opt-in fallacy: "Your data belongs to us. Mount option noexec in partman still ignored
Hiya, If you choose the mount option 'noexec' for a partition in the partition manager, it doesn't show up in /etc/fstab after installation. This is a 2,5 years ago reported bug that still exists in D-I RC2: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=383912 -- Roel Koops
Bug#513752: Acknowledgement (debian-installer: lenny - "System Sounds" do not give sound, MP3 and CD do give sound.)
I believe that this issue should be directed to another location. While I have no idea why "System Sounds" works, I now believe that a) a standard Debian Lenny install is installing OSS for sound, not alsa. However what does gnome-audio require, oss or alsa ? b) "gnome-desktop-environment" installs "gstreamer0.10-alsa " which would indicate that gnome uses alsa. c) does sun-java use oss or alsa ? sun-java works with standard installation of lenny, but if I install libesd-alsa0 then gnome-audio produces "System Sounds" but sun-java then does not. I am not sure where this issue resides, I would suggest that in the first place it would be "gnome-desktop-environment" .

The important part of the patch is the last hunk. Independent of the probing (which we currently don't need in d-i, since we use the workaround dmraid uses) we need to pick the right *partition* name [1]. The rest of the patch is just to bring it in line with e.g. cciss, we keep the probing code around for that too. Anyways, I will stop bothering you now, it's just too tiresome and we have workarounds. Having > gnome-audio installed as part or the debian lenny installation would > seem to be a logical to me. Working around other packages' dependencies is not Debian Installer's job. I suppose that Debian GNOME maintainers pondered very carefully the dependencies of gnome-desktop-environment and, if they did put gnome-audio as a "Suggests" only, they probably have good reasons.
