One remark : I want an installation and system in English, but my location is Japan, so needing do go back and forth between the Language/Location steps in d-i to achieve this combination was annoying and shouldn't be required, as language and location are 2 different things. As for the hardware support, everything seems supported so far, sound, video, network, wireless and SD card reader. I couldn't test the] Wimax interface yet. Only issue: the screen brightness management doesn't work, and it is a serious problem since the screen brightness level is very high. But this is a kernel/acpi issue, and will be reported there. -- == Installer lsb-release: == DISTRIB_ID=Debian DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Debian GNU/Linux installer DISTRIB_RELEASE=6.0 (squeeze) - installer build 20100623-00:07 X_INSTALLATION_MEDIUM=cdrom == Installer hardware-summary: == uname -a: Linux nashi 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Tue Jun 1 04:34:03 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux lspci -knn: 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Core Processor DRAM Controller [8086:0044] (rev 02) lspci -knn: Subsystem: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. Bug#587046: tasksel: forcefully removes packages when tasks overlap
Subject: Tasksel forcefully removes packages when tasks overlap Package: tasksel Version: 2.81 Severity: normal Steps to reproduce problem: 1. Use tasksel (or aptitude) to install the tasks ~t^desktop, ~t^gnome-desktop and ~t^laptop 2. Use tasksel to uninstall the ~t^laptop task Result: The packages wpasupplicant, network-manager, and network-manager-gnome are removed, all of which are also part of the ~t^gnome-desktop task. Blabbering (more info): It seems like tasksel simply removes every package defined in a task when said task is unmarked, regardless if packages are manually installed or part of other tasks. One bad scenario is a user installing something via tasksel and then removes the same thing again, in which case more than was installed by the task in the first place may be uninstalled upon its removal. In Ubuntu this problem is a bit more pronounced, since the overlap of tasks is much larger and much more common. See https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tasksel/+bug/574287 for my original report regarding this in ubuntu. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages tasksel depends on: ii aptitude 0.6.1.5-3 terminal-based package manager (te ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.32 Debian configuration management sy ii liblocale-gettext-perl1.05-6 Using libc functions for internati ii tasksel-data 2.81 Official tasks used for installati tasksel recommends no packages. tasksel suggests no packages. -- debconf information: tasksel/first: Standard system utilities tasksel/tasks: Graphical desktop environment, Mail server, Laptop tasksel/title: tasksel/desktop: gnome -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. floppy install
Hey Looking at this page http://www.debian.org/distrib/netinst there is prominantly referenced Tiny CDs, floppy disks, USB sticks, etc with, in my case, particular interest in the phrase floppy disks, then which, if, for instance, the i386 link is followed http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/lenny/main/installer-i386/current/images/ and reading the manifest http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/lenny/main/installer-i386/current/images/MANIFEST there seems to, in fact, be no such thing as a floppy disk size set of vmlinuz and initrd.img. So, where are these floppy install images? Or do they exist? Or is the documentation just wrong? Thanks James -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
