I probably mentioned this already, but you aren't constrained to a single initrd.gz: you can use several ones separated by commas. Where can I use several? In a Xen domain config file or in some bootloader config or something? Is it actually supported of does it just happen to work by some coincidence? Unfortunately not in a Xen domain config, AFAIK. But isolinux supports it, as per syslinux.txt: It supports multiple filenames separated by commas. This is mostly useful for initramfs, which can be composed of multiple separate cpio or cpio.gz archives. OK, Thanks. It's actually an overlay, so it may be possible to work around the Xen limitation by making the Xen initrd the base one and overwriting its arch dependent parts as needed. Although it probably could be made to work I'm not that keen on making the regular case more complicated/strange (even if supported by the bootloader) in order to support Xen and I suspect nobody else is either. I'd prefer to drop GTK from the Xen images. Ian. -- -- Ian Campbell BOFH excuse #169: broadcast packets on wrong frequency signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Re: Progress of Debian Installer 6.0 - Beta1
[Otavio Salvador] Finally after I ended my monograph of this University turn I got some free time to look at Debian Installer as it deserves. Congratulations. :) Please if you think that I've missed anything please point it out. If you think you can help on any of those, please say :-) There is a problem with udev slowing down the installer a lot (bug #586404). It might go away when the d-i images are updated in Squeeze, but if not, I believe it is a problem that should be fixed. I've also seen a problem with one of my test laptops at work, where the installer fail to find /dev/hda2 when setting up LVM even thought it is present. No idea if it is related to the udevadm settle issue or something else, but thought it best to mention it here. It started happening the last few days, and I have not yet had time to investigate and report a bug. I do Squeeze test installations with Debian Edu several times a day at the moment, and it is working fairly well modulo the issues above. windows7 missing from grub menu
Hi, I installed squeeze alpha today after 5.04 seemed to have problems with my SATA disk controller. Installation seems to be a success as far as debian is concerned, but windows7 is not listed in the grub menu. The installer told me that it had detected an existing 'vista' installation (it was actually windows7), and so I thought I would trust it to configure the grub entries for me. However, there was no entry for any kind of windows in the menu after reboot. I'm hoping that there is an easy fix? Cheers, Grant

Bug#583388: Non-US keyboard problem with graphical installer
Quoting Holger Wansing (li...@wansing-online.de): It works for many people, I think. That are special, rare used setups, where it doesn't work. Not exactly rare setups when someone using a US keyboard did choose French, German, Italian, etc. as language. There are gazillion of people in these places who think it is much smarter to use a US keyboard (I don't and I think this is a snobbish attitude, but still..;:-)) The same stands for people choosing English as language but use a Germand/French/whatever keymap.
