Yay.

Given that your installation was a complete success, I do as
usual with reports for successful installations: I close the bug..:-)

This does not of course mean you weren't right to report. Knowing the
installations are correct is important for the d-i team.

Many thanks for your time testing the Debian Installer and reporting
your results. Have fun with your new Debian system!

Package: debian-installer
Severity: normal

I have installed Squeeze on a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop from a i386 netinst CD
downloaded on Tuesday last week. During network setup d-i pointed out that the
firmware file e100/d101m_ucode.bin is missing. After I put that onto a USB
drive d-i copied it to /lib/firmware where the driver still could not find it.
Only after I moved the file to /lib/firmware/e100 the network setup went fine.
I had to do that a second time during installation, unfortunately I don't
remember at which stage.

Re: Activating t-p-u by default (was: Re: For those who care about their packages in Debian)

2010-08-28 Thread David Kalnischkies
2010/8/26 Carsten Hey cars...@debian.org:
 * David Kalnischkies [2010-08-26 17:43 +0200]:
 Long story short:
If you want to get updates from an archive only if you pushed a version
 previously from it: 100 = pin 500.

Wouldn't adding a new field to Release files similar to 'Not-Automatic'
but pin to 101 instead of 1 if this new field is set to yes an option
for apt/Squeeze+1?  This has been reported in #186767.

Well, yes and no.
Technical more or less no problem, but…

As far as i understand t-p-u i don't understand why the default should
be 500. If i am adding it (or let a piece of software add it for me)
i guess i want these packages on my system: proposed-updates at least
suggests for me, that they will be soon in testing anyway, just,
that they are tested now before they enter real testing in an overlay
archive. If i don't want to participate in this testing,
i should remove the archive from my sources.

If i just want to grab some versions from it, t-p-u doesn't get much testing
in general as you must care for this specific package enough to get a new
version for it: So new iceweasels are maybe tested a bit, but packages like
tzdata will not get any testing through t-p-u…

The problem with this is also, which is why i don't think it would be
suitable for backports, is that these archives mixing minor only-bugfix
releases and new groundbreaking upstream releases…
E.g.: I maybe want to get bugfix releases for iceweasel through backports
automatically, but what i don't want is an automatic 3.6 - 4.0 upgrade,
but such pinning i need to define by hand anyway.

Regarding the bug: What do you do if two non-debian archives provide such
a package -- and, do they fight against each other now that they can by
changing their DefaultPriority? The cleaner way for the user would it be to
declare: I don't want to get this package from this archive ever and
i care only for these packages from this archive, ignore the rest.
You can say that with -1 and Co, but it is a bit harder than needed…

So, again in short:
I don't see a reason backports shouldn't be pinned to 1 by default and
t-p-u by default not pinned at all to get the default 500 pin…

Best regards

David Kalnischkies

But after reboot system boots correctly. May be it's because I have
lenny on it before squeeze installation (and may be not reformat
partition with bootloader).

Re: Activating t-p-u by default (was: Re: For those who care about their packages in Debian)

2010-08-28 Thread Philipp Kern
On 2010-08-28, David Kalnischkies kalnischkies+deb...@gmail.com wrote:
As far as i understand t-p-u i don't understand why the default should
be 500. If i am adding it (or let a piece of software add it for me)
i guess i want these packages on my system: proposed-updates at least
suggests for me, that they will be soon in testing anyway, just,
that they are tested now before they enter real testing in an overlay
archive. If i don't want to participate in this testing,
i should remove the archive from my sources.

Please note that t-p-u isn't moderated like the other proposed-updates suites
(i.e. there is no p-u-NEW). That means that every DD has unrestricted upload
access there which might or might not involve asking the Release Team
beforehand. The migration from t-p-u from testing is reviewed by the Release
Team, though, and will only happen if all builds are present[1] and if
the result has a lower or equal uninstallability count.

So it's a tad more likely that an upload to t-p-u never enters testing
(just like uploads to unstable might not end up in testing), while in
the (old)stable-proposed-updates it rarely happens.[2]

I think that's why it was merely a helper suite to upload to when the way
through unstable is blocked by (more or less useful) library transitions
(or shlibs bumps). That's also where our please keep unstable free from
not-releaseable new upstream versions points are coming from.

Kind regards,
Philipp Kern

[1] Because of how the autobuilding system works for testing, there would be no
other way to get builds for it anymore after an approval hint.
[2] It is possible that an upload is skipped at point release time because
we do not consider it ready. But when we accepted it into p-u, we're
committed to at least push a revert afterwards if the update is
unreleasable.

http://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/es).

Me lo apunto para actualizarlo, pero si quieres envía un informe de
error asociado al paquete para que no nos olvidemos de arreglarlo.

De antemano gracias por Tu apoyo.

Saludos y buen día

Bug#566497: install: Please support reusing existing crypt-lvm partitions

2010-08-28 Thread Philip Ashmore
I second this wish. I'm triple-booting Debian Lenny(13G), Debian
Squeeze(13G) and Ubuntu Karmic(20G),

all on the same encrypted LVM.

I currently use Qemu to create install to a Qemu image file from which I
copy the install logical
volume, but I have to use a different LVM volume name to access them at
the same time as my real

LVM volume.

Figuring out which files to change to create an initrd.img that decrypts
the real volume with the
real LVM group name is proving difficult, and currently the initrd.img
created by the resulting

real partition is producing invalid images.

Bug#387470: debian-installer: needs an possibility to load a full font for g-i: bug still valid?

2010-08-28 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Holger Wansing li...@wansing-online.de (25/08/2010):
The g-i was GTK+ based at the time, when you reported the bug, now
we have the new X.Org based installer. Don't know if this makes any
 difference here.

It's still Gtk+-based (what changed was DirectFB → X11). AFAICT,
switching backends isn't going to make any difference for that bug.

Yes, AFAIK the situation isn't changed.
I think installing a font package and refresh font by it
is easier on X11 than DirectFB.

Thanks,
