This would certainly make fixing stuff easier for me. Then I could do
that myself. What are the rules to add someone to this group?

Please, next time, refrain from indentation improvement: it's a PITA for
translators (it shouldn't harm too much this time since it was “only“ up
to date in French and Italian), but don't revert your indentation
changes again now it's up to date in French ;-). FWIW, I preferred your
version of os-prober section, than the already existing one, e.g. you
added a relevant bug number (and for someone like me who barely
understand the issue, I found i more understandable, as it sounds more
general).

Regards,

David

P.-S.: For the record, the existing version:

os-prober causes data corruption on a SAN setup

os-prober causes data corruption on a SAN setup;
mounts SAN volumes that are already mounted on a different host.
See http://bugs.debian.org/599203";>#599203.

Miguel's proposal (now deleted):

os-prober causes data corruption if filesystem is being
 used by another host

os-prober causes data corruption on setups where filesystems are
already mounted on other hosts. This issue has been identified on
a SAN setup and on a virtual machine that uses an existing logical
 volume.
 See http://bugs.debian.org/599203";>#599203 and
 http://bugs.debian.org/556739";>#556739.

Hopefully the problem will be fixed soon and we'll delete this part ;-).

Hi,

...but worked when you run grub-install /dev/sda

What changed in the /boot/grub/grub.cfg from the installation to after you
manually grub-install /dev/sda ?
It would be great to compare both versions.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for your reply - I have the installation going at the moment
using a unetbootin created install.

OK, so there are a few things that could help here:
  1) The error is not that helpful; it doesn't indicate that it found
something not suitable - especially since you might think it would be.
  2) The install guide points to
http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/main/installer-i386/current/images/MANIFEST
or
http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-i386/current/images/MANIFEST

  (see http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/i386/ch04s02.html.en )
  which only contains the mini.iso

  3) I just noticed there is a footnote on
http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/i386/ch04s03.html.en
that mini.iso is not suitable, but that's only marked as a foot note on 4.3.2.2
and not
4.3.1 ('The easy way') and hence I didn't spot that. That needs to be more
prominent
since the path it's lead me down is to go to the place that only has the
mini.iso
and so it's the obvious mistake to make.

Dave

Bug#602740: Squeeze beta1 installer on SunBlade 1000 (sparc) - keyboard not working

2010-11-07 Thread Jurij Smakov
Package: installation-reports

Hello,

I've tried a couple of installs on my SunBlade 1000 box (sparc) using
the Squeeze beta1 netinst image. Installation using serial console
with guided partitioning worked like a charm. However, when I tried to
install from regular console, keyboard (Sun USB Type 6) did not work
in the installer. I've tried the latest Lenny installer (5.06 netinst)
and the same keyboard works there, so it looks like a regression.
Judging by the entries in dmesg, keyboard is detected properly in
both cases and expected drivers are loaded - it just does not work
with Squeeze installer.

Best regards,

iso-scan found mini.iso, but the mini.iso does not contain a debian

Please, try again with the netinst.iso on your USB key and I think you
will get the results you would like - I use this method frequently :-)

Bug#602718: debian-installer: Swap mount problem on install

2010-11-07 Thread Roland Stigge
(I used the guided partition scheme - one partition for everything incl.
/home etc.)

It turns out that the installation process created the swap partition in
ad0s2, not ad0s5. Adding /dev/ad0s2 to /etc/fstab made GNU/kfreebsd use
it correctly. :-)

bye,
  Roland

FWIW, it looks easy to add the new PCI device attributes to 2.6.32.
This might be preferable to adding the biosdevname utility.

Re: debian-installer: kernel lagging for sh4, m68k, alpha

2010-11-07 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Hector Oron dixit:

>m68k 2.6.26 (-7) 2.6.26-1 # unoficial

I’ve got working 2.6.32-26+m68k.2 which I uploaded to unreleased on
debian-ports.org yesterday, and 2.6.32-27+m68k.3 is almost built.
The kernels for m68k sort of need patches to build which, at the
current time, will probably not be added to the sid (2.6.32-*)
kernel to keep it stable. (Also, I’m building them with gcc-4.4
right now, because we got that into better shape than gcc-4.3.)

Can you use kernels from d-p.o unreleased for the installer?
Stephen said that d-i kernels were traditionally cross-built
manually anyway, IIRC.

Preliminary debdiff (from dpkg-buildpackage -S before building it)
at:
https://www.freewrt.org/~tg/debs68k/notyet/linux-2.6/linux-2.6_2.6.32-27+m68k.3.debdiff
(will move to debs68k/dists/sid/main/PS-ok-unrel/linux-2.6/ once tested)

I’m currently at

in the compilation process (doing an arch+indep native build for
the first time, previously I built the indep portion on i386), so
the binary part is finished but not yet packaged or tested. The
difference to 2.6.32-26+m68k.2 is that RTC_GENERIC is enabled on
atari for ARAnyM, and it’s resynched with 2.6.32-27, so I expect
it to work, but you can never be sure… (if I don’t manage it until
tonight or maybe tomorrow morning, it will take a few days more due
to a dentist visit *shudders*).

Since the package is for d-p.o unreleased, it’s nothing that should
be applied as-is. Specifically, either the compiler switch to gcc-4.4
(will be uploaded today) should be made m68k specific, or the config
needs CONFIG_ARCH_WANT_FRAME_POINTERS and CONFIG_FRAME_POINTER to
work around a gcc-4.3 bug. The patches… fixing them should be applied
right now, I think; enabling them is questionable as some touch MI
stuff, such as msdosfs. They’re needed (well, a subset of them) for
ARAnyM machine support though (without, it boots but has no ethernet,
which is kind of bad) which is vital to development.

bye,
