Re: Planning for final lenny point release (5.0.10)

As the security team have recently confirmed that security support for lenny will end on February 6th (a year after the release of squeeze) it makes sense to schedule 5.0.10 to be after that date and make it the final roll-up point release for lenny. So, security EOL for lenny has now passed. We're in sync with the security archive and the only missing packages are openjdk-6/{alpha,ia64} and opie/{arm,armel}. AIUI the chances of those ever building are remote but, given that we've nothing to lose we might as well go ahead and accept them in to o-p-u and see what happens[tm]. I can't see any outstanding o-p-u package bugs in the BTS. If there's any I missed on the list, please yell. -kernel, -boot - were there any plans for a final kernel and/or d-i upload for lenny? If so we need to get those sorted asap. In terms of scheduling for the point release itself, the current suggestions are: 25-26/2 - Steve's not available for CDs 3-4/3 - Cambridge BSP. Should be do-able as long as I can get decent connectivity at the right time. :-) 10-11/3 - Joerg mentioned he's not available on the Sunday, but that's only really an issue if stuff breaks and it then transpires that Mark's also unavailable to help fix the world. Forbidding all-numeric hostnames
Would anyone object if I made netcfg forbid all-numeric hostnames? RFC 1912 s2.1 says you aren't allowed them (although its status is Informational, and RFC 2181 seems to supersede that restriction). DNS lore such as http://www.zytrax.com/books/dns/apa/names.html advises against their use. More importantly for Debian, I think, it's clear from #65041 that attempting to use all-numeric hostnames in our system is asking for trouble. I have to say I've never encountered a real network that used them, and they would confuse me no end if I did. The only particular obstacle seems to be the MUST in RFC 1123 s2.1. Firstly, I suspect that this was more intended to mandate that host software had to support names like 3com.com, although obviously that's guesswork. Secondly, I think this applies more to software that might need to interoperate with hosts with existing all-numeric names than to software that's arranging for the installation of new hosts. Bug#660070: [INTL:kn] tasksel kn
Quoting Vikram Vincent (vincentvik...@gmail.com): Package: tasksel Severity: wishlist Tags: l10n, patch -- Vikram Vincent Thanks to the team for your work. A minor point: could you consider sending bug reports with a more explicit title than 'tasksel kn'. I am used to various languages and I now about kn==Kannada. This is less sure for all maintainers and it would help them if either the bug text or, better, the bug title contains something more informative. For instance, here: [INTL:kn] Kannada translation of tasksel tasks Of for debconf templates [INTL:kn] Kannada translation of debconf templates And something like Please find enclosed the translation of this package's debconf templates. This file should be put as kn.po in the appropriate place in your package tree. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
