Bug#652946: error reporting

2012-07-26 Thread Andrei Purdea
Also I think mjt is right. The installer should be able to report if
tar failed for any reason.
Maybe open a new bug about this issue?

Bug#682857: console-setup-udeb: can't preseed keyboard layout=de variant=nodeadkeys

2012-07-26 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: console-setup-udeb
Version: 1.81
Severity: important

Hi,

I couldn't find a way to preseed keyboard configuration to use layout=de
and variant=nodeadkeys.
I tried a wide variation of settings, tried to understand
keyboard-configuration.config ... to no success. As I couldn't find a
current manual for the installer online I had a look at the SVN version,
but the B.4.1. Localization appendix (English ,i386) does not seem the
be updated, yet.

These are the results of several preseed tests:
(preseeding keyboard-configuration/xkb-keymap is needed to get rid of
the question as it seems)
Variables as found in /etc/default/keymap in the installer, but I
haven't seen this differ from the values in the installed system.

d-i keyboard-configuration/xkb-keymap   select  foo
XKBLAYOUT="us"
XKBVARIANT=""

d-i keyboard-configuration/xkb-keymap   select  de
XKBLAYOUT="us"
XKBVARIANT=""

d-i keyboard-configuration/xkb-keymap   select  de
d-i keyboard-configuration/layoutcode   string  de
XKBLAYOUT="de"
XKBVARIANT=""

d-i keyboard-configuration/xkb-keymap   select  de
d-i keyboard-configuration/layoutcode   string  de
d-i keyboard-configuration/variantcode  string  nodeadkeys
XKBLAYOUT="us"
XKBVARIANT=""

d-i keyboard-configuration/xkb-keymap   select  de
d-i keyboard-configuration/variantcode  string  nodeadkeys
XKBLAYOUT=""
XKBVARIANT="nodeadkeys"

These settings were always active:
d-i debian-installer/language string en
d-i debian-installer/country string DE
d-i debian-installer/locale string en_US.UTF-8

In case there is something to try, I can quickly to a test in
virtualbox.

Sources for released debian-installer images ?

2012-07-26 Thread Didier 'OdyX' Raboud
Hi dear FTP-Masters,
(CC-ing -boot for information)

while discussing the current Built-Using fields generated in debian-installer
binary packages over IRC, I noticed the following problem:

Our mirrors network distributes debian-installer images without
providing
the sources of the packages needed for their construction (despite
Built-
Using).

As an example is worth 1000 words:

a) In the current wheezy installer-* directories, we ship the 20120508 debian-
installer images, aka:

debian/dists/wheezy/main/installer-amd64/20120508/images/

b) But there is no 20120508 debian-installer binary package available (which
is the one carrying the Built-Using information) there:

debian/pool/main/d/debian-installer/

c) In the particular case of the 20120508 debian-installer package, the Built-
Using field (I checked from snapshot.d.o) is at least not satisfied for the
"alsa-lib (= 1.0.25-2)" package that is not anymore available from:

debian/pool/main/a/alsa-lib/

At first sight, there are two ways around:

 i) keep all debian-installer binary packages around;
ii) drop the past debian-installer images (besides the shipped by the suite)
from the dists/ directory.

Ideas, other ways forward ?

Cheers,

OdyX

I don't think there's an xkb-data issue here.  Then again I don't
understand the reported problem, and there's not enough information
here.

Well I would argue that the netcfg vs network-manager issue concerns
d-i, but...

Bug#613430: debian-installer will not install grub bootloader on kfreebsd-amd64 system w/ a ZFS partition

It could be that grub-installer tries to mount with '-t proc' instead of
'-t linprocfs' on GNU/kFreeBSD. Could be a serious bug as at least
three people have seen this now (including me) and it requires manually
working around from the the installer shell, such as:

# chroot /target /bin/bash
# mount -t linprocfs linprocfs /proc
# update-grub2
# exit

Apparently it is not specific to ZFS.

May be somehow related to http://bugs.debian.org/637684
