No, probably not. Sorry for the misunderstanding andthe upload of
two packages that had pending stuff, one week ago (IIRC,
grub-installer and partman-efi: these are the ones you may want to ignore).

I've just reinstated my "hold on" status and I'm refraining from
uploading the few packages with more pending stuff since then.

The only change that is not a translation update in these two uploads
is:

grub-installer (1.105) unstable; urgency=medium

I don't believe CD2, DVD2 etc are bootable. "OMG there's like 60 CDs which one
do I need? It's all so complicated!!1!" is sadly quite common.

Err, can't actually *all* images be used on a USB stick?

You mentioned d-i's transition to testing; that's only a prerequisite
to a release, not the ultimate thing that we're aiming at, as pointed
out by Julien already.

I've developed a few scripts to help me extract bits for the release
announce; in the current state, only what's mentioned in the d-i build
logs can be managed this way. Having further uploads in the archive
makes it harder to gather other relevant information. This doesn't
exactly help (quite the contrary).

If you think I could have been clearer when I asked to wait, please
propose a wording for me to use next time.

Bug#744865: Add check and warning for unetbootin

2015-01-21 Thread Steve McIntyre
So, some progress on this front. I've filed a bug against unetbootin
itself to ask for warnings "Don't use this for Debian CD images"
(#775689) and there has been some discussion there.

I've now tried the current stable and unstable versions of unetbootin
myself with the latest Jessie d-i RC1 amd64 netinst CD and could not
get it to work at all usefully. *sigh* I've no idea how people ever
manage to get unetbootin to work for them - documentation is
non-existent.

What I *do* have now is some information about the contents of the
resulting USB stick, so I can add a checks in d-i for various files
and trigger a warning something like

"It looks like you're using an installation disk generated using
unetbootin. This is regularly linked with difficult problem reports
from Debian Installer users; if you have problems using this
installation disk, please try your installation again *without*
using unetbootin before reporting issues. See the installer
documentation at ... for more information on how to create a USB
   installer disk."

Stuart Prescott has opened a few more bugs with patches for our docs
to help users with this; see #775814, #775821, #775824, #775826.

Bug#774811: debian-installer: debian-testing-powerpc-netinst.iso 2015-01-05 08:58 278M doesn't boot

2015-01-21 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Hi,

Since this problem is powerpc specific, I'm putting
debian-powe...@lists.debian.org in copy and since it concerns the
bootability of an ISO image, I also add debian...@lists.debian.org.

Does anyone have any idea why jessie ISO images would not be bootable
on an old G4 ?

Bug#775904: di-netboot-assistant should verify the downloaded files

Package: di-netboot-assistant

Dear Maintainer,

Given most of the files downloaded by di-netboot-installer are done so
over insecure connections, it makes sense to have it verifying this files
or at least provide a way for sysadmins to do it.

Thanks,

bert.
