Bug#851189: keyboard-configuration: ALT+Cursor-Left switches consoles instead of working on app in focus
Package: keyboard-configuration Version: 1.156 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? Update of either keyboard-configuration or console-setup causes the problem ONLY in the running Linux session. Is gone after reboot or possibly restart of the service. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Happens only in running Linux session where the update of the package took place. * What was the outcome of this action? As an example. In Firefox I often use ALT-Cursor-Left to navigate to the previous page. But right after an update of keyboard-configuration or console-setup this shortcut switches back one TTY (here from 2 where X with Gnome runs to 1 where is a login prompt). * What outcome did you expect instead? Not switching consoles. Btw. this is the third or fourth time that this happens just after keyboard-configuration or console-setup were updated and I didn't reboot betwen. Because it happens in X I suspect keyboard-configuration rather than console-setup. But I'm only guessing here. *** End of the template - remove these template lines *** -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (1001, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 4.8.0-2-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages keyboard-configuration depends on: ii debconf 1.5.59 ii liblocale-gettext-perl 1.07-3+b1 keyboard-configuration recommends no packages. keyboard-configuration suggests no packages. This isn't entirely surprising because the latest u-boot upload to unstable, which got used to build debian-installer 20161031 had: | u-boot (2016.09+dfsg1-2) unstable; urgency=medium […] | * Remove openrd targets, as they do not boot (Closes: #837629). | | -- Vagrant Cascadian Sun, 23 Oct 2016 19:36:36 -0700 I might have missed messages on debian-boot@, but a quick search on kirkwood or openrd doesn't get me any unread messages warning us about their imminent removal. It really would be nice to make sure debian-boot@ knows about such things in advance (even better if I get explicitly cc'ed on this so as to make sure I don't miss something affecting next d-i releases). That being said, there's still the issue of debian-installer's build system not detecting this issue, which is what this bug report is about. Once a fix is implemented for this specific issue, it would be nice to know what to do with the kirkwood/u-boot things for openrd. If they're not going to work (again/at all), the relevant code should go away from debian-installer.git; or am I missing anything? Input welcome.
