Re: building a custon talking debian installation image with build essential and other packages on the disc as well as the mate accessible desktop
Nick, Please use the non free images because many blind people are connecting by Wi-Fi and the drivers are only on the non free images. Also add the Unofficial multimedia sources so blind people can use the non free codecs. It takes a lot of work to make Debian normal. But Debian still is the best, I just wish they'd stop the non free prohibition and put printer and multimedia and Firefox in their ISO. However, I would still like to make the mirrors list for Debian Ports consistent because users are confused that they get a mirrors list on one architecture but not on the other. Otherwise, choose-mirror works pretty well for Debian Ports now, so thanks for your improvements there. Maybe we can get some additional mirrors for Debian Ports in North America, Africa and Asia so users can choose a mirror closer to their location. Adrian -- .''`. Preferred method of updating Mirrors.masterlist?
Hi! Since I saw several updates to the Mirrors.masterlist through the choose-mirror package today on the list, I was wondering what the preferred method of updating the Mirrors.masterlist is. I have opened a PR to update the architecture lists for Debian Ports for the mirror in Germany and South Korea [1] but so far it hasn't seen any attention which makes me wonder updating the list this way is the preferred method or not. Is it better to update the list in the choose-mirror package directly? Thanks, Adrian > [1] https://salsa.debian.org/mirror-team/masterlist/-/merge_requests/6 -- .''`. I missed (again) that the package generates a udeb. I don't think d-i actually uses it, but it should have a KiBi-ack for completeness. (A statement that fuse is OK to update in general would also work if that's easier.) Regards, Adam

hey there, what is the back button in this instance? would it be the back space key? Bug#958881: debian-installer: ext4 with no journal is misinterpreted as ext2
Package: debian-installer Severity: normal Tags: d-i Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? * What was the outcome of this action? * What outcome did you expect instead? *** End of the template - remove these template lines *** After a corrupted nvme drive which included my root filesystem as btrfs which wouldn't repair, I had to re-install (I was on Buster, but have taken the opportunity to upgrade to Bulleye). This drive contains a partition which I had formatted as ext4 with no journal (it is the data directory for a docker install of sql server, so was set that way as btrds cow settings not appropriate for a database), although I had forgotten it was ext4 with no journal, and could afford to recreate from scratch. So during installation it is reported by partman as ext2, but just failed to mount. I assumed it was corrupted as was the rest of the ssd, so I told the installer to reformat it. I have a virtual box machine on another SSD, and that too was reported as ext2 but failed to mount. This drive is more important (it contains a windows 10 installation maintained over a large number of years) and so I just told the installer to forget it. Now I have a working system and come to mount it, I had incorrectly added it to /etc/fstab as ext2 and it was failing to mount. However a manual mount without specifying the file system type (sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /home/alan/vbox ) made it work But now I could examine the failure message and realise its an ext4 without journal and that is why its not mounting /etc/fstab. -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 5.5.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/12 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_GB:en (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled

Hi, Majid Hussain wrote: > hi there, > how do you get back to the main menu of the net install iso? > after you press the s key? > Majid Pressing the Back button (one or more times) always brings you to the installer main menu. (Note: "installer main menu" is not the boot menu, where you select "Install", "Graphical install" etc. It's the menu of the installer itself.)
