Hmm, what exactly is the benefit?
Sourcing a file from a git repo on Salsa seems reasonable to me, given that
we have revision tracking there, which would be a good basis for debugging
d-i's mirror list in case of problems or questions...

Having deb.debian.org at the top would be an improvement, as well as having
ftp.CC.d.o next to it.
However, the difference is only marginal IMHO ...

on salsa you get all the down and broken mirrors. on mirror-master,
they are filtered out.

Dear Maintainer,

Bullseye RC1 fails to install on my Linkstation Pro (LS-GL). It runs out
of memory just after confirming the partitions, when it starts to format
the disk, and the installation process gets killed. Ironically, I think
this is happening only seconds before it would format and activate the
swap partition.

The Linkstation Pro is an orion5x NAS with 128MB RAM. I checked the
Installation Guide; it says that the installer's memory requirement is
80 MB. https://www.debian.org/releases/testing/armel/ch02s05.en.html

The installation images were retrieved from:
https://deb.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-armel/current/images/orion5x/network-console/buffalo/lspro_ls-gl/

I have (re-)installed buster successfully. The installation process uses
some swap (especially during 'apt-get update') but does eventually
complete. I upgraded it to bullseye, no problem.

I am attaching the full syslog from a failed attempt at installing
bullseye. Please let me know if I can provide any other information.

I am booting this network-console image over TFTP... I guess there's no
easy way to provide the 'lowmem' boot parameter. I'd have to modify and
rebuild the install image (probably the initrd)?

thanks,
Ryan

In a preseed file I accidentally had a space before a comment character, which
caused my preseed to fail in unexpected ways. I could not find anythying that
stood out in the documentation (e.g.
https://www.debian.org/releases/buster/amd64/apbs04.en.html or
https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/apbs03.en.html) stating that this
would occur.

The specific example in my case looked like this:

#_preseed_V1
d-i debian-installer/locale string en_AU
d-i keyboard-configuration/xkb-keymap select us

# Example of fetching a script to run
 #d-i preseed/run string http://10.1.2.3/my-script.sh

My install was hanging and when I entered a console and looked in the syslog,
it was attempting to access that script for which the IP address does not exist
on my network. I finally started to understand the problem when I did this, the
latter finally triggered a parse error in the installer console:

 #d-iWHATpreseed/run string http://10.1.2.3/my-script.sh

 #d-iWHATpreseed/runISstringHAPPENINGhttp://10.1.2.3/my-script.sh

at this point I saw the white space, removed it and the problem went away.

(I am also unsure whether "d-iWHAT" is also a bug or just some default applying
if the item owner is not found)

So I guess that either
- whitespace is disallowed before a comment character and this should be added
to https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/apbs03.en.html - it mentioned
whitespace between fields but not at the start of a line
- this is a bug

Bug#989473: choose-mirror: switch mirror list from salsa to mirror-master

2021-06-04 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: choose-mirror
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-Cc: wea...@debian.org

Filing this on behalf of Peter Palfrader who suggested we switched from
the manually curated mirror list hosted on salsa[1] to I suppose a live
one published on mirror-master[2], that would be more representative of
the current state of mirrors when release time approaches.

 1.
https://salsa.debian.org/mirror-team/masterlist/raw/master/Mirrors.masterlist
 2. https://mirror-master.debian.org/status/Mirrors.masterlist

Having attempted that, I'm not comfortable updating choose-mirror with
this change right now, as that would mean shuffling all entries.

A quick brainstorming on IRC resulted in what appeared to be a good idea
to everyone involved: the list might be random, but let's make sure we
show deb.d.o at the top (default entry anyway), followed by ftp.CC.d.o
(if there's such an entry for the given country).

Happy to take opinions, and possibly patches for that. :)

The trivial change to apply before running `make Mirrors.masterlist` is
in the Makefile:

-MIRRORLISTURL=https://salsa.debian.org/mirror-team/masterlist/raw/master/Mirrors.masterlist
+MIRRORLISTURL=https://mirror-master.debian.org/status/Mirrors.masterlist

July 17th doesn't work well for me unfortunately*.

The others currently all look OK, although I'd prefer not to do two
releases in a row, so with 10.10 being on the 19th the 26th isn't
great.

Adam

console-setup's ckb/ directory is merely a mirror of the xkb-data
content. Please submit your proposal to xkb-data itself, on

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xkeyboard-config/xkeyboard-config

and it'll automatically get propagated to console-setup.
