Bug#240693: debian-installer-demo: potentialy dangerous exit menu name (ambigous)

2004-03-28 Thread Christian Gatzemeier
Package: debian-installer-demo
Version: beta3
Severity: normal

Wanted to quit d-i in main menu so I chose finish install and restart (retranslated
from german) but what it did was more to go through with the install and then restart.

Please be sharper already in the english expressions. Even if it may not sound that
ambiguous in english, translation results unecesserary hard.

Possible Alternative:

Actually Aply Choices / Copy Files
Exit Installer and restart

Bug#240697: base-config: change apt-setup to point to sarge not testing

2004-03-28 Thread Christian Gatzemeier
Package: base-config
Version: 2.15
Severity: normal

Installed from d-i beta3 CD.
And sources list points to testing not sarge.

It is probably time now not to repeat failure #154482 and not
default to generate moving targets (testing) in sources.list
but use the continous names.

Bug#240701: debian-installer-demo: retrieve hostname with dhcp

2004-03-28 Thread Christian Gatzemeier
Package: debian-installer-demo
Version: beta3
Severity: wishlist

Well, subject says all, I guess. IIRC the DHCPDISCOVER should be done with
the hostname set to AUTO, so that might be a reasonable setting then.

Bug#240706: base-config: hardware clock (UTC/GMT/local) setting not clear

2004-03-28 Thread Christian Gatzemeier
Package: base-config
Version: 2.15
Severity: normal

Hardware clock it is xx:xx UTC!

Is your hardware clock in GMT?

What?
All it can ask is if xx:xx is my local time or not,

with the option choose to interpret hwclock as UTC aka GMT
or local. If neither renders a correct local time offer
to adjust xx:xx in desired hwclock setting.

Bug#240707: base-config: need to define group memberships for created user

2004-03-28 Thread Christian Gatzemeier
Package: base-config
Version: 2.15
Severity: normal

Otherwise system is not usable by the user as expected,
i.e. floppy, cdrom, etc. not available.

The added security is good, but the limitations
need to be visible when adding the user.

I suggest to add a muliple-choice selection for device permission groups,
the new user should be a member of.

(I think the relevant group IDs range is 20 and up. Might be
a good idea to have even better defined ranges for
system accounts, deamons, device groups, application groups,
real users, real user groups etc.)

Bug#240715: base-config: incosistent, secret, automatic package selection depending on tasksel/aptitude/nothing/etc.

2004-03-28 Thread Christian Gatzemeier
Package: base-config
Version: 2.15

incosistent, secret, automatic package selection depending on
tasksel/aptitude/nothing.

Entering tasksel and not selecting anything will install MANY packages.
Selecting not to install any thing at the menu will still install SOME
packages. etc.

So basicly the result of the install is dependent on the path taken,
even though one hasn`t added anything.

Bug#240721: debian-installer-demo: localisation set during install is not active afterwards

2004-03-28 Thread Christian Gatzemeier
Package: debian-installer-demo
Version: beta3
Severity: normal

Installed beta3 and then chose desktop-environment from tasksel.

localisation set during install is not active afterwards

The settings seem to get messed up again later.

-- needed to run dpkg--reconfigure locales
(and there was no default set) to get apps speak german.

-- Keyboard on virtual consoles german but wrong. i.e. Alt-F[1-12] do
not work and you are trapped in there once you leave X.
I think this has been due to the console-data package that got installed
after leaving base-config package-tool selection for whatever reason.

-- In X itself the keyboard has is english. The installation does not
seem to have picked up on system settings.
