Comments/Problems:
It was very pleasant. Thank you.

Too much cleanup of pkgs installed for no reason, no big deal, used to it...

I think installer logs are attached if not I'll follow upand attach them.

The attachment file /var/log/installer/installer.tar size is bigger than the
maximum of 10485760
bytes: reduce its size else the report cannot be sent

Much obliged, this very brand new computer is very happy with bookworm.
I really appreciate the free os.

Bug#767682: Debian Bug #767682 - D-I: Installer Hangs on Re-Formatting Ext4 Partition

2016-01-29 Thread Debian User
This is a nasty bug! It took us by surprise. We were using netboot.tar.gz
installer build=20150422+deb8u2 and successfully installed Debian 8.1 and 8.2
prior to end of November/December 2015. It had failed to install in the same
environment for the past couple of weeks or since about January 20, 2016.

The pxe installs are again successful by downloading netboot.tar.gz
build=20150422+deb8u3 even installing on top of an old Debian system.

Bug#672458: installation-reports: IPv6 privacy extensions should be enabled by default

2012-05-11 Thread a debian user
Package: installation-reports
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

I know that I can enable the IPv6 privacy extensions after the installation of
debian.

But I think it is important that I can enable the IPv6 privacy extensions for
the installation in the debian installer.

The problem is that debian sends my unique MAC-dress to some servers during and
after
the installation of debian if the privacy extensions are disabled.

So please include the feature to the debian installer that the debian installer
will ask
the user if he wants to enable the IPv6 privacy extensions.
If the user wants to build a server with the debian installer, he do not have
to enable the
IPv6 privacy extensions.

Yours faithfully,

your debian user

Re: Quem te admira muito;;;;

2006-05-17 Thread debian-user-portuguese-request
General info

Subscription/unsubscription/info requests should always be sent to
the -request address of a mailing list.

If a mailing list is called for example "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", then
the -request address can be inferred from this to be:
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]".

To subscribe to a mailing list, simply send a message with the word "subscribe"
in the Subject: field to the -request address of that list.

To unsubscribe from a mailing list, simply send a message with the word (you
guessed it :-) "unsubscribe" in the Subject: field to the -request address of
that list.

In the event of an address change, it would probably be the wisest to first
send an unsubscribe for the old address (this can be done from the new
address), and then a new subscribe to the new address (the order is important).

Most (un)subscription requests are processed automatically without human
intervention.

Do not send multiple (un)subscription or info requests in one mail.
Only one will be processed per mail.

NOTE: The -request server usually does quite a good job in discriminating
between (un)subscribe requests and messages intended for the maintainer.
If you'd like to make sure a human reads your message, make it look
like a reply (i.e. the first word in the Subject: field should be "Re:",
without the quotes of course); the -request server does not react to
  replies.

The archive server
--
Every submission sent to this list is archived. The size of the archive
depends on the limits set by the list maintainer (it is very well possible
that only, say, the last two mails sent to the list are still archived, the
rest might have expired).

You can look at the header of every mail coming from this list to see
under what name it has been archived. The X-Mailing-List: field contains
the mailaddress of the list and the file in which this submission was
archived.

If you want to access this archive, you have to send mails to the -request
address with the word "archive" as the first word of your Subject:.
To get you started try sending a mail to the -request address with
the following:
Subject: archive help

  The listmaster
  --
To reach a human being answering your mail you may contact the address
[EMAIL PROTECTED] We will process your request as soon as
we can.

Mail sent to this address is pre-parsed, a little mail robot will
automatically answer all mails sent with the following Subject lines:

  help sends this help

lists sends information on how to get a list of mailing lists

Bug#260655: debian-installer: MD5 check on sarge netinst beta 4 fails for ./README.html

2004-07-21 Thread Debian User
Package: debian-installer
Severity: minor

Mounting the sarge netinst beta 4 .iso (on loopback), cd'ing to that dir, and running:

 md5sum -c md5sums.txt

Gives an error. README.html has the wrong md5sum... assumably because it was
edited after the checksums were generated.

Comments/Problems:
Two comments: about disk partitionning and boot manager.

I can read there already is some discussion about ergonomics. I also
got confused about this "Continue" that, _in this particular dialog_,
seems to be a fifth option, but that was okay. If I were really
confused or worried about my data on the disk, I guess I would have
stuck with the four action items, leaving untouch this "Continue" for
which I am not sure about.

I really liked the fact that I could configure everything, from
partition size to esotheric options like noatime, and I also liked the
table that recaps all that (no more "Wait, /dev/hda5 was my /tmp or my
/var?"). However, I remembered configuring each partition took quite
a lot of key presses (tab, arrow, arrow, enter, tab, arrow, enter,
...). I don't remember the exact order, but I feel that "Use this
partition" should be the default, just like "Create a fs", and then
"Determine mount point" if you have just created anything but swap
(sorry for the inexact prompts).

A small quirk: I mis-entered a partition size once ("100" is
interpreted as "100 B" ?? Alright...), so I resized it, and, ... Mmm.
I am sorry I can not remember exactly, but I got the impression that
it created a FS just before trashing it by resizing it, or that it did
something after resizing that I had to undo. I only took a few
seconds, so as a user, I was not upset.

With regards to the bootloader, installing grub took sooo long, that I
thought it crashed, and it defroze just a second before I pushed the
reset button. If it is normal to take such a long time, a "This may
take a few minutes..." [ ;-) ] would be welcome.

Also, and finally, lilo was also installed and I found it confusing,
because I knew grub was already installed (I could rememeber the

[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

^^ Should be another option, e.g. [B] or [P] mean it works (not an "error"),
but works badly or poorly.

Comments/Problems:

Choose language:
ar - miscoded (rendered with ?)
ru - words cutoff (po-russ instead of po-russki)

Network:
DHCP fails on built-in wireless (works OK on built-in ethernet port).
Presumably the wireless port is PCI device 01:0a.0. It's an Atheros AR5001X+
Wireless Network Adapter (Ethernet 802.3).

Partitioning:
Only cfdisk offered standard for partitioning??? Seems inferior to the
alternatives. Was not able to create more logical partitions, after
creating two primary ones (the original NTFS and the new bootable linux
partition).

Exiting from there into the full menu, there are then three partitioning
options, which is confusing. I need to partition the drive three times???
This ought to be organised more clearly, so I'm not tempted to think I need
three partitionings.

Partition the Storage Devices: resize partition does not support ntfs,
which pretty much rules out any easy dual-boot set up from any modern
MS Windows system. I had to use Partition Magic to do it.
Cannot select the FREE SPACE after the windows partitions (15.7GB primary
ntfs, 8.9 GB logical fat32): "Partition the
storage devices" simply jumps straight back to the menu of partitions
instead of the menu of partitioning actions (I can get to the action menu when
I select the windows partitions). So this option (is it parted or partman?)
is useless.

"Automatically partition hard drives" is no good - it says it will destroy
all data on all disks. I can't wipe the windows partitions here! It would
make more sense if this automatically partitioned available free space,
rather than the entire drive.

So it's back the the ugly default cfdisk, which could not create more
logical partitions after making 2 primary ones. So I make the linux
partitions all logical using cfdisk. This is too complicated!

Configure and mount partitions:
When choosing the mount point (/, /usr, /boot, etc), the full choice of
mount points is always in the list, even if some of them have already been
selected. The list should be updated to only show unassigned mount points -
you can't mount two partitions to the same directory (not in Linux anyway,
maybe Hurd can).
Screen goes blank while configuring mounts, which takes a good 30 seconds.
A message should be displayed describing what is happening and "please wait".

Comments/Problems:
DHCP worked, but had trouble with setup of static ip-address.
To this day I've have never been able to figure out how
to fix an ip-address to my card. This in spite that I have
used Debian exclusively for over three years! Sigh!

Postconfiguration are becoming harder and harder with Debian.
It used to be easy. I'm thrilled with the new installer,
but dead tired of cleaning up afterwards.

I have a long list of modules where I don't even use half
of them. And dealing with alternatives, dozens of files
in /etc scattered in many small pieces, traversing dirs
and manpages in desperation to find a simple explanation
of how to configure things in a rather standard way or
even minimally.

Shouldn't it be default to let these modules be out
and easy to add, rather than in and difficult beyond explanation
to remove?

Allthough I refer to modules in particular, it is the general
impression I want to emphasize: That there is just to much in
the base or that it explodes all to easy when installing
(more) software.

I turned off pcmcia, ir and wireless in my laptop
since I never use these, but yet, this is it:

Bug#162429: modconf: New version - still no user interface

2002-10-08 Thread Debian User

Package: modconf
Version: 0.2.44
Followup-For: Bug #162429

Yesterday I downloaded and installed the newest version of modconf and
*still* have no user interface for this programme. Again, you run it
under shell or terminal, the machine pauses for about 15 seconds and
returns. That's it. Somehow it is locking itself out of the interactive
mode but I've no idea why.

Bug#162429: modconf: No user interface for modconf

2002-09-26 Thread Debian User

Package: modconf
Version: 0.2.43
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Ever since I went to kernel 2.4.18 I have had no user interface for
modconf. I had waited for 2.4.19 to see if that fixed it, but sadly not.
Whether under the console or in a terminal I get nothing except a bit of
a pause and then a return. No sign at all of the ncurses interface
showing up. It doens't seem to break the modules, but it means that as a
programme it is basically unusable.

Bug#73690: boot-floppies: apt configuration downloads package lists several times

2000-10-04 Thread Debian User

Package: boot-floppies
Version: N/A
Severity: normal

Installing latest stable (potato) on i386 servers during apt configuration after each
apt source is added the package list is downloaded from each server. Then when dselect
is started the package list is downloaded again. This is no problem when installing on
a 100 Meg link with one apt source, but is terrible on a shared modem with 4.
