modify existing menu.lst instead of creating a new one
Hi all, as far as I know the default behaviour of d-i when the user answers yes to the question "Do you want to use GRUB as boot manager", is to first search for other operating systems, generating the menu.lst file accordingly, and then install is own instance of grub (possibly overwriting an existing instance). That was always fine for me, but recently I was asked by a couple of users if it is possible to make the d-i detect if a GRUB instance already exists, and possibly addan entry for the system being installed to the relevant existing menu.lst, without generating its own instance. Would this be possible at the state of the art? Ciao! Free -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

daily builds with 2.6.18-3 fail to boot on SATA cdrom
both i386 and amd64 images of the latest daily builds will fail booting (the BIOS try to boot from CDROM, but fails and skips it) on this CDROM: scsi1 : sata_via Vendor: ATA Model: Maxtor 6V200E0Rev: VA11 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05 Vendor: TSSTcorp Model: CD/DVDW SH-W163A Rev: TS01 Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 05 The funny thing is that if I boot from the hard disk a Debian etch system (that I've installed with another cdrom device), and try to mount a disk with this SATA cdrom, then it works perfectly. I'm using kernel 2.6.18. Any idea? Ciao, Free -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

How to set yaird as initramfs generator
Hi, how do I set yaird as default initramfs generator? I've looked to base-installer.postinst and tried to preseed: d-i base-installer/initramfs/generator select yaird and to add yaird plus its dependences to .disk/base-include. The yaird package is properly installed and the debconf value properly set, but still base-installer wants to use initramfs. Debconf priority is set to "high". It seems that cdrom-retriever does care about both main and local: Release="$CDMNT/dists/$suite/Release" [...] components="`grep ^Components: $Release | cut -d' ' -f2-`" ret=1 for comp in $components; do and my debian-cd generated Release file is ok (both main and local are listed). The strange thing is that I know for sure that it was possible to load home made udebs from the local component (that's what I did for A/DeMuDi 1.2.0, but I do not need extra udebs anymore), and I believe it's still possible to do it. I don't understand why this doesn't apply to the base-installer udeb too.. Anyway the simplest thing is that #254996 gets fixed, is there any chance to get it into Sarge? local base-installer is ignored
Hi, inorder to workaround bug #254996 I've prepared a custom base-installer with a slightly modified postinst script. The custom version of package resides in the "local" component of the repository on the CD-ROM, that means it's Package entry is in: /cdrom/dists/sarge/local/debian-installer/binary-i386/Packages and the file is located in: /cdrom/pool/local/b/base-installer/ while the official version of the package is not included in the "main" sections, that means it's not listed in: /cdrom/dists/sarge/main/debian-installer/binary-i386/Packages nor present in: /cdrom/pool/main/b/base-installer/ The /cdrom/.disk/base_components file includes both components: main local However anna and the menu complain that base-installer is not present: Nov 10 08:34:17 anna[3217]: DEBUG: resolver (base-installer): package doesn't exist (ignored) [..] Nov 10 08:34:21 main-menu[347]: DEBUG: resolver (base-installer): package doesn't exist (ignored) [..] Nov 10 08:34:26 main-menu[347]: DEBUG: resolver (base-installer): package doesn't exist (ignored) [..] Nov 10 08:34:43 main-menu[347]: DEBUG: resolver (base-installer): package doesn't exist (ignored) [..] Nov 10 08:34:47 main-menu[347]: DEBUG: resolver (base-installer): package doesn't exist (ignored) How do you fix this? change xdebconfigurator menu item number in base-config
Package: xdebconfigurator Version: 1.10 Severity: normal I think xdebconfigurator should be run *after* pkgsel. This way xdebconfigurator triggers itself if the xserver-common package (which contains dexconf) was installed, and does nothing otherwise. Probably the right number would be 90, but it is currently used by localization-config. xdebconfigurator support in base-config
Hi, what do you think about including xdebconfigurator support to the finish item of base-config? We can use the code from debian-br-cdd and skolelinux, and trigger it with an hidden debconf question like: db_get debian-installer/xdebconfigurator || true if [ "$RET" = "true]; then ... fi so that it won't affect the current behaviour of base-config at all, but at the sametime it would be available for who needs it (e.g. CDDs).
