I'm still having the same trouble with the latest (02.Dec) installer
with an AIC-7901 SCSI controller. The following changelog entry is from
the latest kernel-source-2.6.8 update (-10):

* Fix missing backport of ssleep declaration so that new aic7xxx works.
Thanks Matt Taggart for pointing out the problem. (Joshua Kwan)
I wonder if this is still causing the problem. Any ideas?
On a related note, I've been trying to use the linux-kernel-di-i386-2.6
and debian-installer source packages to make a 2.6.9 kernel image to use
with d-i with no success. Using either the images in sid or ones I
compile myself, the kernel is unable to load the root filesystem and panics.

How can I find out what version of kernel-source-2.6.8 is used to
generate the d-i kernels? How can see the .config used?

Thanks,
Jan Medlock

Can you provide us with the output of:
(lspci ; lspci -n) | sort
(please send it to the list...I'm not a hardware specialist and this
is needed to help the right people)
I'm traveling now so it will be a few days before I have access to the
machine again. I'll send the lspci info as soon as I can.

Debian-install kernel and AIC-7901

2004-11-24 Thread Jan Medlock
I'm having trouble with the kernel in Debian-install detecting my
AIC-7901. It seems there is a bug with the pci table in the aic79xx
driver in 2.6.8-1 which is in Debian-install RC2.

I tried the d-i daily for 23 Nov 2004, which seems to use the same
kernel source (2.6.8-1) and, thus, has the same problem. Can anyone
confirm this is the case?

I also tried to build a new d-i image with an updated kernel using the
d-i wiki docs, but was very frustrated by both the debian-installer and
linux-kernel-di-2.6 source packages.

Does anyone have any advice as to how to procede, either by building a
new d-i image or otherwise?

Thanks,
Jan Medlock
