Bug#501517: [debian-installer] support Boot Booster through partitioning
Package: debian-installer Severity: wishlist --- Please enter the report below this line. --- (Filing the bug against debian-installer because of the complex issue involved; nevertheless it seems to mostly affect partman-auto.) The current BIOSes of most (if not all) Asus Eee PC models with internal solid state drives have a Boot Booster functionality which allow them to use data loaded on a tiny primary partition to speed up their boot. (See [1], [2] for more info.) The Debian Installer may suggest and help to create such a partition - and warn about this thing even if the user want to go with manual partitioning. (Of course the Boot Booster partition is often already present on the SSD.) When trying to select a driver manually, some just fail, while other cause the installer to freeze. Couldn't BTW grub become an empty package depending either on grub2 or on grub1?
