2013-06-21, where before that it was still 3.2. Apparently this has been
fixed in the meantime, as the current installer correctly loads ehci-pci.

I seriously doubt that this is the important difference. These bugs
are probably duplicates of #730789: the OHCI driver (ohci-pci,
previously called ohci-hcd) is missing. I believe that breaks:

- All devices in USB 1.x ports (except in systems with UHCI)
- Low speed and full speed devices in USB 2.0 ports

But these should still work:

- High speed devices in USB 2.0 ports (handled by ehci-pci)
- All devices in USB 3.0 ports (handled by xhci)

Keyboards and mice are generally low speed or full speed, but a
keyboard with a built-in hub might be high speed.

Bug#715408: possibly duplicate: Bug#728936: Debian testing installer does not dectect USB keyboard

2013-12-09 Thread Manfred Rebentisch

Hello Andreas,
I have downloaded the netinst ISO:
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/7.2.0/amd64/iso-cd/debian-7.2.0-amd64-netinst.iso

First I tried to copy the included files from ISO file to the windows
path L:\Software\Debian7.2\. I started setup.exe from there - but the
program only tell me, that it cannot found the win32-loader.ini. May be
searched in another directory? The file was there.

Burned the ISO on a CD and start the PC with the Logitech Illuminated
Keyboard. I tried to use graphical and textual install. In both cases
all have worked. This installer seems to be OK !

Thank you very much.

I tried to reproduce the problem on my Laptop (i3-2330M) with a Logitech
USB keyboard, that Windows 7 reports as:
HID\VID_046DPID_C312\726B80A520

For me the external keyboard worked in the installer.

Furthermore I found the strikingly similar bug #728936 [1], where it was
suggested, that this is a problem only on PowerPCs, but you had this
problem with an i5 processor.

Thus it would be helpful if you could test, whether your keyboard works
with current installers, or if the problem still persists.
To test this, you don't have to actually install anything on your
computer, just burn the installer (or copy it to an USB stick) and
check, whether the keyboard works in the 'Select language' screen.

Best regards,
Andreas

I can't see how the system could freeze after showing the first menu,

Bug#457973: debian installer (etch r1) on AMD Athlon XP 3200++

Hello Geert,

From my point of view it is also (very (very)) hard _WHAT TO THINK_
about USB. I suggest you reply this E-mail with the relevant lines
from your report about the thing that runs wrong, plus some elaboration
 about the issue.

I need some days, within I do the following: I take a new disk and run the
installations with install two times: first with connected USB hardware and
second without the USB hardware. On boot prompt I try to set the DEBUG
parameter.
After that I can answer again to this mail. Is it ok to put a long report as
attachement?

That may cost some time, but hey, see it as an investment for the next
time _you_ will do an install on the same hardware and also for people
with a simular hardware set up.
Thats ok.

Bug#457973: debian installer (etch r1) on AMD Athlon XP 3200++

2007-12-31 Thread Manfred Rebentisch
Hello Frans,
thank you very much for your answer.

Am Montag 31 Dezember 2007 15:56 schrieb Frans Pop:
On Thursday 27 December 2007, Manfred Rebentisch wrote:
  Comments/Problems:
  1. I choose expertgui

Note that expert really is only intended for people for are very
familiar with the installer and actually need the additional options.
I think, I did use the expert mode many times with many debian installations.

  2. Can choose kernels, but missing description about that !

The installer automatically selects a good default. If you don't know
 better, just select that.
I think, it is a good idea to put a simple comment to this page.

  3. The detection of network card shows only the hardware floppy
  4. The detection of hard disks shows only one entry named floppy too.

What's the point? As you were able to complete the installation I assume
that both network and disk were supported. Again, don't use expert mode
 unless you need to.
Why did you answer to me?
I did use the expert mode, because the previous install with install was
failed (does not show many installer pages, does not install most software,
only minimal system).

  5. The software task KDE-desktop is missing

No, it is not. It's just not possible to select it from a dialog. There is
a separate installation CD that installs KDE by default.
Please consult the installation guide for info on how to select KDE using
 the standard CD images.

  6. uswsusp give message, that there is no valid swap partition. But
there where two valid swap partitions while installation process. One
swap on sda2 from RAID and one on hda2 from first installation trial.

 This is a known issue.

  7. There was no possibility to add the first user
  8. There was no question for the root password

 This is just not correct.

  9. During disk partitioning it was not clear, on which of the disks
debian will install. It was done ok, but there was no possibility to
choose the destination disk (hda or sda).

This is just not correct either. Both for guided and manual partitioning
the installer _always_ lets you select which disk to use.
No!

Please have a look to my report again and think about the USB hardware. I
think, that something runs wrong, because I have a floppy via USB.
But I did not understand the details.

Have a happy new year 2008!

Manfred

Comments/Problems:

During the installation there was a 3Ware-Raid-Controller (Escalade 7006-2)
installed, with two IDE-Disks in RAID 1 (one disk defect, degraded array).

The system has not a normal floppy drive. A floppy drive is available with an
external USB device (card reader with floppy).

1. I choose expertgui

2. Can choose kernels, but missing description about that !

3. The detection of network card shows only the hardware floppy

4. The detection of hard disks shows only one entry named floppy too.

5. The software task KDE-desktop is missing

6. uswsusp give message, that there is no valid swap partition. But there
where two valid swap partitions while installation process. One swap on sda2
from RAID and one on hda2 from first installation trial.

7. There was no possibility to add the first user

8. There was no question for the root password

9. During disk partitioning it was not clear, on which of the disks debian
will install. It was done ok, but there was no possibility to choose the
destination disk (hda or sda).

Thank you for your work

Bug#414192: d-i: kernel detect CentaurHauls VIA Samuel 2

2007-03-10 Thread Manfred Rebentisch

Another note: on another machine with the same CPU it was a correct
installation with installgui on install boot prompt. This time I
use expert. That may be the important difference.

Is that done with the installer kernel or with
 the afterwards installed linux-image-2.6.18-4-486?

The cat command is called with the afterwards installed 486 image. Because it
was not possible to use the other kernel (permanent booting).

Which image did you use: the businesscard or the netinst?
