Bug#517571: lenny mini.iso broken (at least on i386)

2009-02-28 Thread Noah Meyerhans
Package: debian-installer
Severity: important

It seems that /etc/udeb-source contains unstable in the lenny
mini.iso. Since the udebs are downloaded via the network when using
mini.iso, the installer ends up pulling in udebs from current unstable
and failing due to some recently introduced incompatibilities.

Switching to vt2 and changing /etc/udeb-source to contain stable
before the downloading the installer components (in expert mode) allows
the installation to procede.

Bug#514248: installation-reports: lenny RC2 powerpc installation report

2009-02-05 Thread Noah Meyerhans
Package: installation-reports
Severity: normal

Just passing along a report of a smooth and successful installation of
lenny RC2 for PPC.

The only snag was when I tried to install onto an existing partition
without re-creating the filesystem. I haven't managed to find any
details in the logs regarding this failure. Creating a new filesystem
worked fine and things proceded smoothly from there.

Please send feedback to the mailing list (even successful ones).

I just completed a fairly basic install on an alpha (AlphaStation
5/333). Things went smoothly using the netinst image.

problem with grub and separate /boot partition

2004-02-06 Thread Noah Meyerhans
I completed an installation using the beta2 debian-installer. I'm sorry
if this is a known issue, but I figured I'd report it, just in case.

I put /boot on /dev/hda1, and / on /dev/hda3. The grub menu.lst file
that was generated, however, set 'root (hd0,2)' which is incorrect.
Manually changing it to 'root (hd0,0)' fixed things.

problem with ethernet driver loading

2004-02-06 Thread Noah Meyerhans
I installed sarge using d-i beta2 on a system with a nVidia nForce
ethernet interface built in to the motherboard. There are no drivers
for this hardware in the kernel included with beta2. That's OK, and
understandable. The problem was that I was prompted to choose a driver
for my network hardware after each and ever step in the installation
process. Natually, the answer was none of the above each time.

Aside from that and the grub-installer problem mentioned in a separate
message, everything went very smoothly.

I apologize if this was a known issue. I'll try a newer d-i build over
the weekend and report on it, if it's likely to fix these problems.

 Was this the netinst CD??

No, the was the 100MB base install CD.
