Root and user password does not show symbols

2007-07-18 Thread nirupama rout
Package: Installation-report
Version: At the time of installation found bug

I am using debian-installer from svn unstable and
while installaing for writing the root password and
user password I find it neither takes '*' nor a black
dot symboel
The representation is like square boxes as if missing
some fonts.

Do I need to check the debina-installer.Is the bug
solvable now.

Bug#432797: system does not reboot automatically after fresh installation

2007-07-11 Thread nirupama rout
Package: debian-installer
Version: Taken from unstable

svn co svn://svn.debian.org/svn/d-i/trunk
debian-installer

I did a gui installation from the latest build cd.I
took the debian-installer from svn unstable.

The whole installation went well and the cd came out
and at the finish of installation the system did not
reboot by itself. It stoped at a white screen.I could
not wait anymore and restarted manually and everything
was fine.I got the grub and was able to boot into my
new os.

Next time I did the same in text mode and had no
issues the system rebooted by itself and I landed in
my new os.

When I repeated the gui mode of installation to check
something at the finish of installation.as soon as the
white screen appeared i restarted the pc manually. And
saw that grub did not get loaded properly

It stopped at

grub>

then I entered into the new os by giving the partition
and kernel name and initrd.

second time when I rebooted showed no problem and the
grub was loaded automatically I dont know how this
time grub got loaded.

What could be the reason of getting the white screen
and how can I make it to reboot in gui mode.

Machine does not reboot

2007-07-10 Thread nirupama rout
hi

After installation is completed in gui mode the cd
comes out and shows the installtion complete but the
system does not reboot.why?

It shows a whitish screen where even mouse move is not
visible. But when I restart the pc manually I get the
new os well installed

The same process in text mode of installtion works
fine and the system reboots automatically

The lines I added in preseed.cfg file is as follows:

#xserver-xorg xserver-xorg/config/monitor/lcd boolean
true
#xserver-xorg xserver-xorg/config/device/driver select
i810

#xserver-xorg xserver-xorg/config/monitor/horiz-sync

#xserver-xorg xserver-xorg/config/monitor/vert-refresh
string 43-60
#xserver-xorg

#xserver-xorg xserver-xorg/config/monitor/mode-list

d-i finish-install/reboot_in_progress note
d-i prebaseconfig/reboot_in_progress note
#d-i cdrom-detect/eject boolean false
d-i grub-installer/with_other_os boolean true

Even though I gave the option of rebooting it does not
reboot why?

Can any body help me out.

Bug#430545: Display goes off at the mid of installation

2007-06-25 Thread nirupama rout
Package: debian-installer
Version: Taken from unstable

svn co svn://svn.debian.org/svn/d-i/trunk
debian-installer

The installation goes fine till the configuring of
xserver-xorg phase and suddenly the display goes off
and shows blank screen with boxes that are unreadable
but the progress bar still seems to move and the
installation finishes successfully and cd comes
out. These things happen only in text mode of
installation

In GUI way of installation the installation goes fine
till the same stage and suddenly shows installation
failed at the configuration phase as in text mode of
installtion.

In text mode of installation I am unable to see other
consoles or ttys after the blank screen appers and in
graphical way ttys(ctrl+alt f1-f5) does not even work.

I am unable to paste any error msg since ttys does not
show up.

But the syslog file of the installer has something
like this after xserver-xorg configuration:
