I know. Unfortunatly, I have to pick having known-working latin
charset support in the second stage over having probably not quite
working all the way non-latin character sets and all latin charsets
broken too..

I'm game for anything, but at this point it will have to wait until
after beta2, sorry.

OK, I continue to think about better solution (Bug#224227 also), but
don't touch CVS of debian-installer/base-config till beta2 will be
released.

That's really bad news.
This revert damages second stage for non-Latin users.

How about 51framebuffer-module-linux-i386 checks LANG also?

A. use fb for all except of some LANG
B. use fb for some LANG

I prefer A.

Or more drastic, how about using bterm (or jfbterm) for all languages
on second stage?

Bug#224226: reverted the framebuffer thing

2004-01-01 Thread Joey Hess
I've had to reopen this bug report, because the framebuffer change
caused problems, and had to be reverted.

joeyh: something is adding vga16fb to etc/modules, and this change the console
charset from ISO-8859-1 to something else.
pere: someone (forget who) added that as part of trying to get japanese
working on the second stage
 joeyh: hm, ok
joeyh: do you remember where this is done?
 probably prebaseconfig
 - Add /usr/lib/prebaseconfig.d/51framebuffer-module-linux-i386
   (Bug#224226).

This will have to wait for a real fix until after beta 2 of the debian
installer is released, I'm afraid.
