Bug#257964: countrychooser: Translation breaks the countries names ordering
severity 257964 wishlist reassign 251418 countrychooser clone 251418 -1 -2 reassign -1 po-debconf reassign -2 debconf retitle -1 Please generate Indices fields automatically for use by cdebconf (and debconf later)) retitle -2 Please support the use of Indices fields for sorting Select/Multiselect choices according to the translated language collate order merge 251418 257964 thanks Hmm. 251418 was assigned to cdebconf which is currently not a good idea. Sorting country names in countrychooser currently needs a trick somewhere unless the more prospoective suggestios below are implemented. I use this occasion for assigning a wishlist bug to both cdebconf and debconf so that each of those has this wish recorded. I *know* this is highly tricky. cdebconf already has some support for Indices fields. So, imho, we need: -debconf support for Indices fields in a way similar to cdebconf -po-debconf generating automatically these Indices fields At the end both would give alphabetically sorted Choices lists in all languages for Select and Multiselect lists. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#257964: countrychooser: Translation breaks the countries names ordering
severity 257964 wishlist merge 251418 257964 thanks > After filling this, I discovered #251418, which seems very related. Feel > free to close this bug report if you feel it duplicated. Both are indeed the same. Sorting translated choices is *very* tricky. It requires the use of Indices fields in the templates file (after it has been generated by po-debconf) choose-mirror has an example : there, country names are really sroted even when translated. This has been done with a Denis Barbier script named sort-countries. Using more or less the same system for countrychooser is theoretically possible but, for the short list even more tricky as this short list itself has a special generation system (see "mkshort"). So, considering we are now officially in a feature freeze time period (see the "yet-to-be-written" 20040706 d-i metting summary), this is quite unlikely to be implemented in a near future.

Package: countrychooser Version: Translation breaks the countries names ordering Severity: normal Tags: l10n Hello, when using countrychooser in, say, French, the ordering of the countries seems randomized. I'm not sure how to fix that. Either you add a new field to cdebconf for automatically sorted choices, or you construct the template on the fly. Both of them seems rather hard to me, but that's a good feature.
