Looks like it's not using a unicode-safe string length function. I
haven't tried to dig into the source to find it yet though..

Input of non-ascii characters does work now; only problem is that when 
you enter a non-ascii char, the input line is broken on the right border.
Hitting ^L does not redraw and fix the problem.
