That looks very likely. Thanks for tracing that.

It seems to be available for most arches, but I doubt that
including it

makes sense for all of them:

linux-image-2.6.32-1-4kc-malta [mipsel]
linux-image-2.6.32-1-5kc-malta [mipsel]
linux-image-2.6.32-1-686-bigmem [i386]
linux-image-2.6.32-1-686 [i386]
linux-image-2.6.32-1-amd64 [i386, amd64]
linux-image-2.6.32-1-itanium [ia64]
linux-image-2.6.32-1-mckinley [ia64]

linux-image-2.6.32-1-sb1a-bcm91480b [mipsel]
linux-image-2.6.32-1-sparc64 [sparc]

For now I've only included it in input-modules for powerpc, i386
and amd64

(all flavors).

i just dl'ed http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/squeeze_di_alpha1/
powerpc/debian-testing-powerpc-netinst.iso
and there is no hid_apple (and therefore the internal keyboard is n/
a) when running the installer .. so i'm

not sure but was this the correct .iso i dl'ed?

cheers,

It was added *after* the alpha1 release.

It should be included in daily built images, but those are currently not
getting built for powerpc. CC'ing the persons responsible for the daily
builds.

If you can tell us exactly what is needed to support the internal
keyboard

(some kernel module probably?), we'll be happy to include it.

Does the installed system support the internal keyboard? If it
does, then a

start could be to compare the module list and/or the syslog from the
installer and the installed system.
You can find logs from the installation in /var/log/installer.

(We cannot do this ourselves as it's likely nobody active on the D-
I team

has the hardware.)

In the installed system the internal keyboard is properly supported.
After comparing installer-lsmod und lsmod of installed system it
looks like

the missing kernel-module is 'hid_apple'.

See the attached 'diff -y installer.lsmod running.lsmod'.

(it also would be a nice-to-have if the d-i team includes the .config
of the
kernel used in d-i in the .iso - could help to reproduce/research
such failures)

The config of the D-I kernel is identical to the config of the
corresponding kernel on installed systems, or else it is available from
the corresponding linux-image package. For reasons of size and memory
usage including the file will not be included in images.

Thanks again,
